Beulah and Her Babies

DSC_9739.JPG
Mama cat, who has been named Beulah, was a stray that came into the Humane Society last week. She had her babies at some point after 6:00 PM on Tuesday the 8th of April.

Beulah is such a gentle soul. She's very attentive towards the babies and is always happy to see any human that enters her little sanctuary. She seems very comfortable and relaxed. The babies are so tiny, they're slightly smaller than a full grown hamster. None have opened their eyes yet, that should start at about 10 days, and they are a week old now. They spend most of their day piled up by mama's belly either sleeping or nursing. They are a nice assortment of colors: two torties, one orange, one gray and white, and one black and white. We're working on names right now, but we haven't determined the sex of all the babies yet, so it's hard to name them all.

Beulah and the babies are in Kim's bathroom right now, completely separate from any IBKs and Kim's other cats. We're not entirely sure how this is going to work out. We'll probably keep them all together until the babies are weaned, then will find a home for Bulah, and continue to raise the babies until it's time for them to go. Where they'll all be kept? We haven't figured that out yet.

  1. Mama cat is too sweet and the bebes are sooo tiny! I've never held one that small before. I'd be afraid of dropping them or squeezing too hard or just doing them some harm. In any case, you guys rock for taking care of them! And as always, many thanks for sharing them with the rest of your online community.

  2. Beulah is beautiful! She looks a lot like my Alice (who crossed the Rainbow Bridge last January.) Maybe someone would want Beulah & one or two of her IBKs? She looks like a very good Momma Cat!

  3. K and SH...
Mama is such a sweet, sweet cat. She has stolen my heart as well. Gawd, I wish we could keep her.

  4. OMG! I can't stand it...but Beulah is a great name. If you want another "B" name, you can use my dad's moniker, Burton. You just have to smile at a cat with the name of Burton...

    All the best to them!

  6. I wish I was making another trip to Tacoma this weekend to see them! I like George, since we decided to keep Fergus' real name, and if it turns out to be a girl you can call her Georgina! Have you already had a Georgina?

  7. Is there any sight so heart warming than seeing a great Momma cat and her kittens?

That little orange one speaks to me - and he's the first that caught my eye. Reminds me of my boy cat who I rescued (but of course, he really picked me) what seems like yesterday, but was 7 years ago.

If only I lived near Tacoma! But then of course, I might become one of those cat ladies with a dozen four legged babies running around.

  9. Awww. *melts* Beulah sounds like one wonderful cat. Yay for the sweet momkitty! :) I'd keep her, but I'm across the country.

And now I know what colors all the kittens are, yay! What color is Momkitty Beulah? I'm going to guess she's a tortie, but as I can't see the pix, I could be way off...

  14. Oh Chanter, as we all get to know each other better in this sort of holy place that is the IBKC, I thank you for showing us these kitties through your own kind of vision. Beulah (and isn't that a grand name!) is a very mottled tortie (sort of a tortie/tabby), one of those kitties that doesn't seem spectacularly beautiful as so many cats are, but rather radiating a peaceful beauty as she looks so blissed out with her nursing babies.

  15. Wait, she's a torbie? *squeaks!* now I really wish I weren't across the country! I've got a soft spot a mile wide for torbies, just because the tortie/tabby combination is so darn unique and cool. *cuddles Momkitty Beulah*
