Such A Good Mama Cat
Beulah Mae is such good mama. She's always willing to stop, drop and nurse whenever one of her babes needs her. She's very protective too, and watches them very closely.
The other day, I was sitting on the floor watching the kittens climb and crawl inside their basket. One of the kitties climbed over the edge, fell to the floor, and started crying. At the same time, Beulah heard a startling noise coming from the other side of her sanctuary door. She dashed towards the stray kitten, picked it up by it's scruff, ran over to me and dropped it in my lap, then ran off to hide. I felt so flattered that in this panicky moment, she trusted me with the care of her crying babe.

Aww! What a caring momma cat! I hope she finds a forever home who can appreciate her sweet temper. She has a HUGE paw too, that extra toe makes her look like she's got mittens.
ReplyDeleteAnd whatever the noise was, my bet is on the vaccuum.
How wonderful! Things like that let us know the huge unspoken connections we forge with our furry companions! I, too, hope she finds a wonderful forever home - she deserves it!
ReplyDeletethat may be the sweetest thing i have ever heard...
ReplyDeleteMama Beulah sure knew what to do to protect her baby. The only surprise for me is that she didn't jump into Laurie's lap along with the crying kitten.
ReplyDeleteOF COURSE she trusts you. To her, you're Mama Laurie who gave her and her babies sanctuary and gives them all love and affection every day. :)
*gulp* *siff*
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet, Laurie! Give Bueulah lots of crowls for us... it's exhausting being a mommy and it's wonderful that she has you to share the responsibility.

That nursing picture looks as if she is being absorbed by the babies, and she looks so happy to be taking such good care of them. What a glorious wad of love!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the sanctuary? When we first met this bunch they were living in Kim's bathroom. I hope, for Kim's sake, that their basket is in another location by now. You are welcome to send the whole bunch to me, please!
Awww. I really hope she can stay with at least one of the kittens. she seems so attached to them.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet
ReplyDeleteOh Beulah, you darling thing! Where once she looked bright and excited she now looks lovey and exhausted - sweet mama.
ReplyDeleteAw, what a good mama - her totally stoned look in the photo notwithstanding! :-D
ReplyDelete*snif!*
ReplyDeleteLaurie, just goes to show the role you play in her and her little family's lives. I'm not surprised at all she demonstrated love and trust in you.
What you and Kim do, it does not go unnoticed, especially by the IBKs (and sweetie Mamas)!
Aww! This totally brought tears to my eyes. I can't even imagine how flattered you must have felt to have such proof of Beulah's affection and trust!
ReplyDeleteAwww. *melts* That made me all warm and fuzzy. Probably not nearly as warm and fuzzy as it made you, I'd imagine, but still. *cuddles Beulah*
ReplyDeleteAaaww, wow what an honor to have her trust you that much.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet
It must be SO rewarding to do what you do - fostering animals. I have even started looking into myself as my husband and I already have two dogs and two cats of our own and shouldn't really have more - fostering would be a great way to get that little be of puppy/kitten I need and would be doing good at the same time. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great!
ReplyDelete@SuzyQ -- my wife and I have fostered for seven years now, and now we have five cats. It is rewarding, but if you're soft-hearted you'll end up with a few yourself!
She sounds like such a great mama!
ReplyDeleteI love the new kitties - they are adorable!

SuzyQ - Our Beastie Boys (who are 3 years old today) were fostered in a home with cats, dogs and a bunny. I believe that has a lot to do with their sweet natures (their nickname notwithstanding) and ability to get along with the older sisters who already lived here when they arrived.
ReplyDeleteIt may be just the thing for you!
That sure is a testament to how much Beulah Mae trusts you with her precious babies. There is no greater depiction of love than a Mummy cat and her babies :)
ReplyDeleteThat is SOOO sweet! I'll bet your heart swelled.
ReplyDeleteI took in a girl who was so tiny, she couldn't keep living outside in the harsh winter cold. During her pregnancy for a litter of 3, she had trouble walking around. After the first week, the kittens were so big in comparison to her, she could not lift them off the ground. She would come to me and tug my pant-leg to let me know the kittens needed to be carried. I would then carry the kittens while she escorted me to where she wanted them to go. It's very flattering, you feel so honored.
ReplyDeleteBeulah is obviously a great judge of character.
ReplyDeleteAnd an awesome mom - she took care of her misplaced baby then herself.
She looks so tired but happy
Thanks for all that you do!
Sweet, sweet Beulah Mae....yet another quality for which we love our kitties, they're adorable mommies. (Yes, yes, I know there are exceptions - the same can be said of people, non?)

ReplyDeleteBeulah - you are such a loving and gracious mamma. Smart too.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing when an animal demonstrates how much they trust you and how much they care? I adopted a rescued kitty named Edison. He was a near-feral yellow tabby. For several days he was absolutely terrified in his new home. He'd hide in his bed whenever I came into "his" room. But we worked together slowly to get used to each other. Then one day, he got out of his bed, sat on the table next to me and brought his head up under my hand and purred. He wanted to be petted. It was and always will be one of the most special days of my life.
How blessed you are to have so many of those moments already and so many more awaiting you. Animals know angels when they see them. They know how special you are.
