Temperatures were in the upper 80's this weekend, ( which is REALLY hot for the pacific northwest) and it was just a little too much for dear Charlene Butterbean. She roamed around the house searching for the coolest spot and decided it was best to just lie down and nap belly-up. Poor little Butterbean.

ReplyDeleteAwww what a lovely girl...
ReplyDeletei'm with you butterbean!
ReplyDeletePoor Butterbean. Just be glad you aren't where I am... it hit about 97 yesterday and last Thursday was 101
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine? It would be like a human being forced to wear a fur coat all summer long!
ReplyDeleteOddly enough, its been an unusually cool spring/summer here in Houston while ya'll up North are getting the heat.
Little Butterbean needs a Lion Cut :) I give my girl one around this time of year!
ReplyDeleteRather than lion cut her kitties, my mom got a 'furminator' and brushed out all their loose hair and the useless undercoat in the summer. Her two long hair cats suddenly had more energy. Even the short hair cat appreciated it. It left more time for belly up pets.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile to save on my energy bill, I'll be going 'au natural' most of the summer trying not to use the AC. I should invest in a cat cool mat or a furminator myself! Keep it cool too, Itty Bitty Kitty Committee!
Oh, Miss Butterbean! You and my Marbles-kitty were two peas in a pod this fine Puget Sound weekend.
ReplyDeleteI opened the windows for air movement....turned on the fans for even more air movement and there you were....sprawled like Miss Butterbean with the belly aimed at the fan!
Here is hoping we o nly get short runs of this heat this year - if we have to have it!.
Keep those kittens clean!
I'd be hot too, if I was wearing fur pantaloons.
ReplyDeleteMiz Butterbean is gorgeous no matter how sprawled out she is! :) Keep cool, Charlene!
ReplyDeleteShe is so beautiful, but I imagine the prettiest girl would like to get rid of her fur coat from time to time.
ReplyDeleteKit: It sure cools them off though vs. just the brushing, the Lion Cuts also allow their hair grow back beautifully! :)
ReplyDeleteAwwww poor Fuzzus Maximus...
ReplyDeleteThat's a girl, Miss Butterbean! Belly to the breeze. I've come home to find all five belly up in the bathroom in the summer (cool tiles, you know... and don't forget the surround cool of the tub).
ReplyDeleteNo central air in my old house, even though I do keep the bedroom AC unit on for them (door cracked just enough for getting in and out), they seem to prefer fresh air and cold tile.
Oh, Charlene, you darling girl. I hope you got some relief. Your coat is gorgeous, but I can see how it would be just a bit warm during a heat wave.
ReplyDeleteThe gorgeous Charlene, laid out on that wonderful floral rug, showing off her amazing markings, snow white feet on dark chocolate legs, same with the tail coloring. And now we can see that she has a light streak from her snow white chin, down her chest and belly. Bella!Bella! Butterbean! She's hot all right.
ReplyDeleteAnother thumbs up for the furminator. You'll want to use it outside though b/c the amount fur that comes off is incredible!
ReplyDeleteSam loves it though..sometimes to the point that he is trying so hard to headbut it to get the feel of it on his head & chin that I have to hold him in place to get his sides ;-)
I think it boils down to this: I adore, love, and cherish *all* the itty bitties...but Charlene owns my heart. I love her as much (albeit from a distance) as I do my own Evangeline and Lilliane. Does a fan help? If I were there I'd fan you with a sandalwood-scented fan, Mme Butterbean, oh yes I truly would!
ReplyDeletePerfectly put, dale-harriett!
ReplyDeleteI've always been told that the thick coats on long haired cats and wooly dogs were insulation from heat and cold.
The talk of the furminator made me get mine out again. I'd never tried it on my cats because they have very short, tight coats, but there have been hairball incidents lately... I could not believe how much dead fur I got out of Beatrix! Enough to make a kitten (or way too many furballs). And she loves it, unlike my wooly dogs who NEED it but hate it. Potter's turn is today.
aw, charlene is the prettiest girl. i often imagine her with a dainty southern drawl :) i could not live in the heat. central air is my best friend!
ReplyDeletei will also chime in re the furminator. incredible stuff but like sam's lackey states, you'll want to do this outside or in a small room where you can gather all the flying fur. it doesn't collect it like conventional brushes. but yeah, the amount of furballs from my penny is considerably down...
Delicious Butterbean bellymeats! *Oh-so-gentle nibbling*
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Doesn't she know that genie pants are out? But seriously, I have a Maine Coon and I love it when she does this... so prosh.
