What's Going On

jerry lee hearts lovell
Jerry Lee is back home with us now, but we'll be taking him to another vet on Monday to have him checked out again. Basically, what's going on with him is that he's not able to poo or pee on his own. He has the instinct to jump into the litter box and squat, but he waits and nothing comes out. I got a lesson from Sarah (our friend and chief medical advisor) on expressing his bladder and I have been giving that a try this weekend. It's not easy, and it's not fun for either of us.

Looking at Jerry Lee, you would never know there was anything wrong. His energy level is great. He plays just as hard as the others. His appetite is strong. He is, of course, a sweet little loving, purring machine.

For now,, we're keeping a close watch on him and we're hoping for a positive report come monday. I'll give you an update on our little guy as soon as we know more.

  1. Thank you for the update. I just know that little Jerry Lee will be getting the best of care from everyone. He's such a little darling, he really is. Hope monday brings good news.

  2. Poor little Jerry Lee! D= I'm sure having someone helping him go to the box must be incomfortable for the poor baby *and for you too, Laurie*

I really hope the vet can give you good new on monday. My cat and I send lots of love and purrs to Jerry Lee and to you for being such a good foster mom!

  3. Darling little guy. I did a little Googling and didn't like a lot of the info. It's a worry. For now we celebrate the little successes and do as Jerry Lee does, enjoy the moment.

  5. Sweet Jerry Lee! Here's hoping for positive news on Monday. The kits and I send love and purrs to Jerry Lee and all who are concerned about him.

  6. I'm glad he's back home (and romping with his brother and sisters!). That's really rough that he needs assistance to go to the "bathroom". That really is rough on both of you. It's a lot of tough (and uncomfortable) love you're having to administer!

Animals are amazing, aren't they? This little fella is still adorable, playing, running around, and enjoying the life of a IBK... just with assisted bathroom breaks!

We're behind you one hundred percent. With love and hope from Darin and her two kits, Daltrey and Jonah.

  8. Jerry Lee knows you can't keep a good kitty down.

  9. Poor little guy! I'm sending him lots of virtual cuddling and scritches.

  10. Chanter, Jerry Lee looks as though he just pounced on top of a soundly snoozing Lovell, looking up with those big, guileless eyes, the expression that kittens and other small creatures use as a "get out of trouble free" card.

  11. Bless his little heart! I'll be thinking of you guys tomorrow.

  12. Poor little guy! If he needs an operation don't hesitate to set up a Paypal link, I'm sure the IBKC's fans will do whatever it takes to help little Jerry Lee!

  14. I agree with Shea, let us know if Jerry Lee needs money for surgery.

  15. God, I love this site! The outpouring of love and support of all kinds is an indication that all the sad and bad things around us pale in comparison to the compassion and goodness we find here.
Count me in, if it is the wise thing to do.

  17. Awww, poorlittle thing. Hope the vet can help him!

  18. Laurie, our prayers are with sweet little Jerry Lee. I missed his visit to the shelter vet (this new part-time schedule is heaven but I miss out on so many things!). But I suppose it's best, because I might have scooped him up myself (and have lots of explaining to do).

On a happier note ~ YAY for big 6-year-old Tinkerbell who found his (yes, his) new forever home last week! His new 4-year old human sister fell in love at first sight, and his new, soft name came naturally. He's an big, big guy, all muscle and a slight attitude, but when he was in her little lap, he melted. We all melted!

  19. Hang in there little guy! What a sweetheart - I so hope that things work out!

  20. Good thoughts headed Jerry Lee's way! Definitely what Shea said... let us know if there are vet bills to be paid. I'll will be glad to help out.

  21. Shea has the right idea! Please count me in if there's need for a fund for Jerry Lee.

Laurie and friends - right now JL is getting the very best medicine: your love.

  22. Shana Banana, isn't it amazing how often it's the big, muscled lugs of tom cats (who don't let a little operation affect their 'tude) who fall in love and vice versa with little girls? Good for him and his new family!

  23. I agree With Shea, count me in too!

  26. Oh, poor little Jerry Lee... how lucky he is to be in such good hands, with humans doing their utter best to keep him comfortable and healthy!

I hope the vet will have good news for you... I remember reading about that kind of problems before, I'll try to dig up the article for you.

Sending tons of good thoughts and prayers your way... Bless your heart and Jerry Lee's little furry butt!

  27. Three cheers for sweet Jerry Lee's return!

And hopefully the next vet will have some suggestions. I hope it won't be a life-long thing for him.

The fund for his care, etc is a great idea - assuming it is in Jerry Lee's interest of course.

You might see if the vets could get in touch with the vet staff at Best Friends in Kanab UT - they have an entire facility dedicated to the kittys with less out-of-box control than some people can deal with.

  28. Hello everyone, thanks so much for your offers of financial support. Just knowing you are out there rooting for him is plenty. Thank you so much. I'll pass all your love on to Jerry.

All of us here at the ibkc appreciate you so much !

  29. Hoping the report is good today for sweet Jerry Lee. I'm currently fostering a kitty, Grace, who is also incontinent along with problems with her hind legs. She's very happy and active and we've both gotten used to the multiple times a day she needs to be expressed. Although the IBKC is probably already familiar with them, just wanted to let you know that there are people and groups out there who will care for special needs animals.

  30. We are thinking of Jerry Lee! Let me know if you need any help, Laurie.
Just to add to Shana's comment: Zeke, Alien, and Robin were adopted yesterday from the shelter. We also had Rosie, a 2 mo. old black little girl adopted also! Sam and Black from PM were adopted too! Yay for the kitties!

  43. Sweet Jerry Lee... We're all hoping for good news. I've spent long sleepless nights worried about a kitten too, so I hope you're doing okay as well. Maybe we should cheer on the vets too?

I looked for the Tacoma/Pierce County Humane Society website, and I think I found it. They take donations, maybe we could send some in Jerry Lee's name?

  44. RIP little boy. Angels are surrounding you now.
