It's That Time Already !
It seems like the Pettibones just moved in, so it's hard to believe they are big enough for their "surgery". Everyone is well over the two pound minimum. Rosalie hit three pounds this week.
This morning, four Pettibones will be going into the HS vet to have their itty bitty bits removed. Two more will go in tomorrow.
On surgery day, the kitties can't eat breakfast. Right now, they are still tucked away in their bedroom and I'm hesitant to open the door. Once you do, the tiny kitten herd charges into the kitchen to look for their breakfast. When they discover there is no breakfast waiting for them, there will be a chorus of cries that won't end. They'll will follow me around, waaaaaaaaah waaaaaaaaah, circle my feet, waaaaaaaah waaaaaaaah, climb my pyjamma pants, waaaaaah waaaaaaaah waaaaaaah. It's painful to hear. It's painful to witness.
It's time to pack up four Pettibones and shuttle them over to the vet. I'll let you know how everything went when they are home this afternoon.
I'm sorry kitties, it must be done.

Oh, it will be an anxious day in IBKland. How will you choose the FIRST FOUR? Oh, my!
ReplyDeleteAwwww! My nearing adulthood kitty does that too. Maaahh maaah! Where's my food? Where's my snacks? Where's my dragon toy?! However, I adopted him after he was fixed and I couldn't bring myself to have him declawed, so I've never had him cry so heartbreakingly as a kitten who's fasting before a surgery. Don't worry, Kitties! You'll be home for food before you know it! And Charlene will even save some for you (maybe).
ReplyDeleteI imagine it's quite painful to experience as well, with a whole herd of needle-like kitty claws making their way up your legs at maximum speed.
ReplyDeleteWhile our thoughts will be with the Pettibones for a quick recovery, our thoughts will also be with YOU, Laurie. We all know how difficult it is to put your little ones through a vet visit... even if it is for their own good. Of course, I know that those little darlings are going to get so much TLC when they return home that the extra spoiling will be the only memory they have of today. Bless you for loving them so much!
ReplyDeleteOh, the guilt hearing those cries, "why are you, oh food goddess, denying us?" -- I've been through that with my own furry ones and it's never easy, but always necessary. Fortunately, they forgive us our negligence.
ReplyDeletebeautiful beautiful renatta. oh my.
ReplyDeleteGood luck at the doctor's, lil' kitties! And cheer up: I'm sure you'll get a fishy treat for being such brave lads.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Pettibones with your surgeries. There'll be lovely food awaiting you when you come home!
ReplyDeleteTo you who will soon be without your itty bitty bits, I have it on good authority from Toes and Marbles that you won't miss them at all.
ReplyDeleteFare thee well sweet ones.....this is but one drawback of many regarding weight gain!
Love & hugs
Little Renatta is getting that adolescent lanky thing going. Next thing you know, she'll be demanding her own car.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Laurie, don't forget my divine veterinarian's routine caution after surgery, "No operating heavy machinery for 24-48 hours!"
ReplyDeletePoor, poor Pettibones! No, wait, that surgery will make them all the more adoptable! Yay, Pettibones! (I have totally used up my quota of exclamation points for the month of July.)
ReplyDeleteJust think...four shaved bellies to kiss the boo-boos on. Snorglicious!
ReplyDeleteOh, poor darlings! I wish I could've caught this earlier on to offer snuggles before the vet, but make sure they get plenty of snuggles when they get home!
ReplyDeleteHi! I ran across your blog today and fell in love! You are so lucky to be able to foster those kitties! My husband wont let me foster any (yet)but I recently rescued, raised, and found homes for 2 litters of kitties and there is nothing I love more!! Thanks for what you are doing!
ReplyDeleteYeah but see -- only a truly loving mama is so good to kittybabies. They won't remember a bit, but it's improving the quality of their lives 100-fold. Bless you for loving those babies this much! (and babies? the treats after will MORE than be worth it, my girls assured me of that!)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for the kitties! Indeed, all they will remember of today (and tomorrow for the other two) are the snuggles, and extra special treats when they get home! It's hardest on you,Laurie, no doubt - thank you for being such a great foster mom!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Rosalie's already exhibiting Typical Tortie Tendencies- i.e, a vast appreciation of gastronomic delights. Pretty soon, you'll have to start watching to make sure she's not wolfing down everybody else's food!
ReplyDeleteI think someone told the kitty in the picture what they're going to do. It looks like it's saying, "They're going to cut WHAT off?!"

Get well soon itty bitty kitties.
Heal quickly IBK's!
ReplyDeleteRemoval of itty bitty bits does not affect the quality of the kitties. They are still snorgalisish!
ReplyDeleteI hope they are healing well & will be home soon - roughing and tumbling and making more sleeping kitteh trains!
