Hello, Goodbye

DSC_0255
The Davenports are growing quickly. Now Chet, Inez and Orson are over two pounds. Edward is just under and little Cecily has a few ounces to go. Chet has always been a lot larger than all the others. I suspect he's not from the same litter. Besides the size difference, his personality is quite different too.

They did just get here. It's barely been two weeks, and it's almost time to go. In a way it's nice getting babies that are a little bit older. They aren't so frail, and you don't have to worry so much about whether or not they'll make it. The down side is that you don't get to keep them as long.

These guys came to us a little more skittish, and in need of more socialization, than any litter we've had before. It's been so interesting to see their daily improvements. They've turned into complete love bugs, and their fraidy-cat ways have completely faded away. Now they are generous with their purrs and quick to cuddle.

I'll try hard to get some group shots of the family. It's difficult to get them all together. They tend to pair off rather than pile up when it's time to settle down.

Tomorrow will be a big day for the babies. They've got to go to the HS for a round of shots, a blood draw, and micro-chipping. Once that's all done, we'll get them on the surgery schedule.

So yes, these guys are short-timers... don't' get too attached folks, we'll be saying goodbye to them soon.

But they are soooo Handsome, Cute, Beautiful, adorable.....

Sigh...I wish them well, this is my bit of unselfishness for the week...to acknowledge that our Davenport time is so limited!

I am proud to see how they have developed more self-confidence. Charlene and her human staff have much to do with that!

  2. Awww, I sure could get used to more pics of those gorgeous babies....but, after they depart, we know (hope) there will be a new batch for us to fall in love with.

  3. Well! They may be short timers, but they have received treatment that will improve their lives for the long-term. I am so happy to hear they are becoming more social and loving!

Bless their hearts and all the lovely IBKC peeps!

  4. That is what we call a "good news, bad news" story...good for them, a little poignant for us. But you've worked a magic on them in short order...now they'll launch armed with love and purrs and be as good as all the IBKs. Again, kudos and blessings on you fosterers. There's a special place in Heaven for the lot o' you. (And I bet it's a truly elegant home right next to the Rainbow Meadows!)

  5. My sister rescued a kitten off the streets, and in two days he went from hissing and cowering in terror to cuddling and purring. At that age, it's so easy to rehabilitiate them. Good luck finding homes Davenports! You're almost there.

  6. oh! I want so much for them ALL to find loving homes to go to.
I cant be selfish with these little guys. maybe their new mom's will set up a blog for them too, and they will post pictures!

  7. These two tabby twins have posing down to an art--they're sitting in a (rough) heart shape, with their rounded derrieres forming the top of the heart and their heads forming the point at the bottom.

Both of them are looking up at the camera with a "So finish already and play" impatient expression.

  8. What lucky little tykes the Davenports are. Today's post is a perfect reminder of the importance of fostering itty bitties. It isn't just a *nice* thing to do, it's vital to them, providing the basis for much healthier, happier lives than they'd otherwise have. Great big hoorays and thanks to all the members of the IBKC for giving their charges this gift.

  9. Laurie, the Davenports may have been more challenging than the other itty bitty families you have fostered - but that means they are the luckiest kitties to be socialized through the IBKC (including Ms. Butterbean) and to thus become super-adoptable! And some very lucky people are waiting for these babies - even if they dont know it yet!
    Hugs to you all!

  10. I'm betting that at least two of the Davenports are already spoken for. Not saying who, but their names begin with Orson and Inez. But then I've been so wrong before when I thought Twyla and Virgil would be the first of their families to go and they were the very last!
What do I know! I do know that I love me some Davenports!

  11. Do you think they came around so quickly because they have Charlene to model after? I wonder how much they look to the older kitty for examples of how to behave. (I've had cats my whole life, but have always adopted grown kitties.. so the whole nature vs. nurture of the IBKC is really interesting to me!!)

  12. Are you sure you don't want to adopt out in Colorado? I would have taken Virgil and several of these kitties!

  13. Too late! I am already attached!

  14. So soon... sniff! We may have only known them for a comparatively short time, but I for one am already attached. Fluff and cute little tabbies and tuxedos, oh my indeed! As sad as I'll be to see them go, I'm also seriously glad to hear how social they've all gotten - yay, IBKC magic working yet again!

And you know, Chet likely being from a different litter just makes him the adopted brother that everyone loves. I certainly do!

  15. sniff...

but these little loves made a relatively easy foster for Laurie, and she soooo deserves that, so selfishness will just have to take a back seat.

Fingers crossed for quick adoptions to spectacular families!

  16. It's hard not to love Orson. He looks so fluffy and cute. I hope he finds a good home soon with a furry playmate.

  17. Sorry Laurie, already attached :)

  18. I'm glad they have done so well with putting on weight, but I will miss them. Well done Laurie for getting them socialised so well.

  19. I saw the rough heart shape too! Here's a thought, Laurie.... an IBKC Valentine's Day card? Or even an "I'm thinking of you" card. Well, the babies could work well for an "I love you" or "Get well soon" card.

    They're just multi-talented!!!

  20. p.s. I hope they all get to go out with siblings, but the twins seem especially attached in the pictures we've seen so far. I sure hope they can stay together!

  21. That is very very too soon to say goodbye...sssssnniiiffffff.... Jeanne

  22. They are so lucky to have had you and Charlene to show them how to be the best IBKs!

I'm hoping for a few more pics before they go. I know there are loving homes out there for all of them. They are so adorable!

  23. Don't you love it when your hard socialization work pays off with a litter of cats who comes in skittish and leaves as 'peep' cats? We try to teach our fosterlings to gently pat people's faces with their paws--guaranteed quick adoption (ha, if only we could teach that skill!)

These guys look great--your photos are really wonderful.

  24. Look! They are making a little Davenport heart, with their kitten bodies!

  25. I second the idea of a nice IBK get well card. This whole blog was my get well card!

Maddie is proof of how much the IBKC helps to socialize kittens. She is the most confident and snuggly kitty I've ever met! I'm typing this with one hand because she is sleeping on the other one.
