OK folks,, I know everyone is itchin' for kittens. Patience, please. We're traveling through Feb 8th, and when we return, I'll be checking in at the HS to see if there are any kittens in need of fostering. There's a good chance it won't happen right away. It's not really kitten season right now, and there have been a whole lot of empty cages in the foster room over the past month. So sit tight, we'll have kittens as soon as we can.

  1. Oh, that gorgeous troublemaker Charlene Butterbean! I can just hear Drewey grumbling about how often Charlene disrupts her naps.

  2. It's funny the mixed messages we live with as foster parents. Shouldn't we be wishing that there are NO MORE kittens waiting for temporary homes <g>. Charlene is darling, and really look like she can barely wait.

  3. Yay, some new pics! Hope there will be some new ittby bitty kitties soon....

  4. Too cute!

I love the depth of field in the last picture

  5. Poor Charlene, she's so desperate for kitty snuggles! I'm sure Drewey doesn't mind the lack of kittens though.

  6. Charlene is so elegant! Such a beauty =^.^=

  7. I wonder....

Does Charlene "mother" Drewey when she has that urge and there are no members of the IBKC to attend to?

Gorgeous sequence of photos...thanks for providing a little light for our (thankfully, I guess) kittenless month.

  8. Yes, we will be patient...

That last pic of Charlene is so adorable; I love that little cross-eyed look! Miss Butterbean awaits kittens!

  9. Oh, I think Charlene is plenty cute on her own!

  16. Yay for empty cages in the foster room! I know kitten season will change all that but I'm going to keep praying it grows even emptier as time goes by!! (OK, and supporting my local SPCA to educate on spay/neuter.)

Thanks for the photos to tide us over (snorgles to Misses CB & D)... and have a great trip!

  17. Oh, hooray, hooray! Thank you so much for giving us an update Laurie. Traveling mercies to you and Craig.

I'm with Anonymous #1; I could look at that pic of the absolutely adorable cross-eyed darling for hours on end. And how wonderful to see Drewey. I feel much better now.

  18. Yay, Charlene pictures! The last one made me laugh out loud (for real), such a great series of pictures! Safe and happy travles, and let's hope there aren't kittens in need of homes...though the odds are that there will be, before long

  19. Charlene Butterbean is definitely not pleased. Lovely photo!

  20. Thanks for the photos and update. It is good to see the Drewster. Safe and happy travels to you all.

  21. It's so nice to see the reclusive Drewy! Kittens are fun and cute, but older cats have their charms too! They're a little slower and set in their routine, but still add a lot of love to a household.

  22. LOVE your site. It's one of my favorites. This photo sequence is great and your year-end post is wonderful too. I teared up when I saw Jerry Lee (like everyone). Thank you for your strengh and the work you do.

  23. Of course kitties are always cute, but it was really nice to see the Old Lady Drewey, too! I'm glad that she's getting a respite from the boisterous young ones just as you are.

We may be a bit ungrateful lot once in a while and pine for more kittens, but you do deserve some rest, too!

BTW, I agree with Dreamer, Charlene looks very huggable and fluffy, she's gorgeous!

  24. Here's hoping the dearth of kittens means that a lot of those poor homeless grown-up cats will get homes right now! That doesn't mean I don't look forward to seeing more IBKC foster babies, though!!

  25. Thanks for the pictures of the older "girls"....good to see Miss Drewey out of hiding too. I am with eRobin, the year end in review posting was so great with all of the pictures you chose. I loved the picture of Jerry Lee looking at the camera while snuggled up among his siblings' behinds. He was such a beautiful little boy.

Enjoy your travels and get some rest, there will be kitties soon enough and in the mean time we can check out many of the IBKC alumni blogs ;o)

  27. I'm happy to hear about the empty cages. As much as I love cats and kittens, I love it more when they have loving homes.

  28. as much as I love seeing your kittens and the pictures of them, it will be a happy day when there are no more shelters because every animal out there has a home.

so I sort of hope there isn't a need, you know ??

love seeing your kitties in the meantime. Gotta love the Butterbean.

  29. ms butterbean is getting quite the 'disapproving' look from Drewey there. she's better watch her back for an attack cat!
she needs some pettin, i wish i could go over and pet her up! :)

  30. Very dramatic history behind those pics we suspect. Cool!

  31. Not kitten season??? omg its ALWAYS kitten season here lol!...beautiful pics...GORGEOUS CAT!!

  32. Thanks for the update, Laurie - always makes me smile. I love how Charlene creeps up on Drewey, but never quite makes contact! Enjoy your travels and well-earned peace in the house, we will all be here waiting for you when you come back!

  33. I agree with the others. Empty cages at the shelters are good. I keep hoping someone will adopt my own IBK, Pepi, who's now growing into an adult kitteh (but just as cute and loving as ever, if not more). Enjoy your vacation. We'll be here looking forward for the next litter.

Have you ever been tempted to keep one of your fosters? Pepi has made it very clear she's happy with me and wants to stay. Even my other cats are accepting her. But if I keep her, I can't foster anymore. I can handle 3 cats at home, but not 4 (plus there are legal limits).

  35. Awww, hello Charlene and Drewey! It's always good to hear from the IBKC perma-kitties. Scritchies and cuddles to the floofy Charlene, and to Drewey too if she'll allow them. :)

Just out of curiosity, I know charlene looks a little sealpoint meezer-ish from descriptions I've had before so... is she smoky grey and white? I have no idea about Drewey, although something keeps telling me she's a brown tabby. *clueless*

  36. Chanter, Drewey is a gray and white tabby with some white markings. She has the sweetest old lady face you can imagine.

Charlene is actually dark brown on her face, ears, legs and tail. Her body is a lighter brown and her chest and feet are white. She has gloriously long fur and quite a regal look about her.

Both are more beautiful than I can describe, but I hope this helps.

  37. Hey Laurie! Three litters of kittens came into the shelter today! They were immediately snatched up by eager foster people - thank goodness - but maybe this is a sign that there will be some waiting for you when you get back. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. OMG! Susan petry, thanks so much for the link! What a great place to peek in on, from time to time!
    :-)

  40. 6 more days!
    woo-hoo!
    i'm so excited!

  41. Well, i guess it's a good thing that the kitten fostering has slowed down :) But i will look foward to seeing the next kitty group!

Your Charlene is a magnificent beauty!

  42. Laurie,

  43. Awwww, thanks for the kitty descriptions! Sounds like I got the colors reversed on Charlene and Drewey... whoops! they sound beauuutiful. Scritchies to the sweet-faced old lady cat, and snuggles to floofy charlene; I love cuddling long-haired kitties, they're like hugging big fluffy clouds! :D Kisses for them both. :)

  44. OK. Today's the day they're back with HRH Charlene and the Drewster, so can spring and IBKs be far behind?
