Have Mercy, Meet Percy!

Have Mercy,, it's Percy

Percival VanHopper came into the HS as a stray kitten, with no other siblings. Sue had been taking a break from fostering, but when she heard of this singleton, she knew had to take him in. Shortly thereafter, she decided he needed a mate, then two, and the VanHopper Sisters moved in.

It was instant harmony. There was absolutely no adjustment period.

A week or so later, I was contacted by a friend, Nance, who was looking for a lovely boy kitty. She and Jen had lost their little love a few months back, and they were ready to bring a new one into their life. Their girl-kitty, Olive, had been missing her brother too, and was ready for a playmate once again.

I told Nance we were kitten free, but mentioned Percy and shared a picture of him. They had always had tabby cats before, and that was their first choice, but once they saw a picture of this boy, they fell in love.

She contacted Sue and found out all about this fabulous kitten gem. His personality sounded like a perfect match for thier home, so the meeting was arranged.

The meet and greet went great, of course. Again,, instant harmony. No adjustment period. He just curled up in their arms and gladly accepted their cuddles and kisses.

Passed Out Percy

The paperwork was completed, with Percy perched on Nance's shoulder.

A round of hugs, a few happy tears, a brief discussion about who drives and who holds the kitten,, and off the family went. I couldn't imagine a happier ending for this (or any) kitten's story.

  8. What a gorgeous kitty! Those are the coolest markings. I hope we get to see an updated photo of him when he grows up.

  9. Seal point with mitts! <3

I agree that he does resemble his foster-sisters. If this was a storybook and not just the Big Old Wolrd Full of Homeless Kittens, we could pretend that he got lost from his family and joyfully reunited after many funny and touching trials and tribulations.

  11. That middle picture of the lower ones? Anyone who says cats don't smile should study that, because if that's not a smile I've NEVER seen one (and I'm 65 and live in pretty merry company!) This is a perfect story; the rings of warmth are spreading all across the world. THANKS for the story!

  12. What bliss! The third photo down (which I believe is also the one D-H referred to) says it all. "I'm a happy boy, going to a loving home, and I'm blissed out." Ahhhh...

  15. Gracious. Mr. Percy's profile has to be one of the best captures of absolute Kitten bliss that I've ever seen! Look at him! It's amazing!

  18. His story is perfect. Although we don't know his beginning, his middle (with Sue) and ending (with Nance) are just what the IBK doctor ordered. I needed a good happy cry this morning and certainly got it.

Sorry for a lack of Cattery adoption updates lately. I've only worked one day since Christmas but I'm told we've had a fantastic number of adoptions! It's not really kitten season, so many of our adults are finding their homes now. Yay!

  19. Hearing about people and cats finding perfect harmony always makes me tear up a bit. Especially when they are still kittens and you just know they are going to have the best cat life in the world.

  21. Wonderful, wonderful tale about such a handsome kitty finding his forever family! The last picture is molded into my heart as a recruitment poster for adoption.
New parents - may we ask for pictures from time to time - he is going to grow into an incredible cat!

  26. I just watched a rerun of Shrek II and there's a scene where Puss in Boots stops a gang on soldiers just by giving a really pitiful big-eyed stare - Percy in the first photo looks just like that scene!

  27. O my goodness - Percy is so gorgeous!

Congratulations to Percy and the members of his new household! A great start for 2009 and the IBKC's satellite committee.

Sigh - Glad to hear that older kitties are getting their chances. When I need to adopt I always go for 18 months+....

Now I am ready to attend to rest of my day of work....

  28. I admit, I was looking forward to seeing Percy after your teaser yesterday - You did not disappoint - what a gorgeous litle cat. I think I love him:)

  29. Hello everyone - I am Nance, new mama of Percy. First of all, a HUGE thanks to our IBKC founder for making the perfect match and also to Sue (his first mama) for providing a great loving home. Percy is a gem - super sweet and affectionate all the time. He is full of hilarious kitten energy and loves his toys. His big sis Olive is still getting used to him - they actually touched noses yesterday which gives us great hope. We will send pix as he grows up! If you can't tell, we are totally in love with him.

  30. Hi ya, Percy! You're quite the cutie!

  31. Dear Nance! It's so good to have word from you and it's amazing that Olive has gotten that close so soon. You have yourself one terrific baby boy there and we groupies can't wait for more updates and pictures as you all settle in to this wonderful life together.
    Blessings all around!

  32. Wow. Miss a few days and _almost_ miss the Van Hoppers and Percy. Goodness me, Whoosht and they're gone! Loooove the pic of Percy all blissed out.

  33. OMG this is just perfect!!! Is this kismet or what?!?

I'm SO glad I live on the other side of the country....

  34. OMG! One more "cutest kitten ever" to add to the list. He is adorable. What a lucky little boy he is as well, to find his forever home so quickly!

  35. My goodness, the kitties on the West Coast are so cute.

  36. Wow, he is gorgeous! I hope we'll get to see pics of him all growed up.

  37. Awww, what a doll! Percy sounds absolutely precious. I love cuddle bug kitties!

Is anybody else reminded of innocent Emmet Holstein here? Personality-wise only, that is - I gather from descriptions that the two of them don't look much alike. Sealpoint is a pretty bluey grey, isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  38. What a perfect ending for Percy. He's a little stunner!

  39. Chanter - it's so sweet of you to remember Emmett. I loved that dear boy. The Holsteins were black and white cow-kitties as you probably recall. (And deduce from their name.)

Percival is actually a showshoe kitty. I'm not well versed on the different colors of "points", but his body is tan-ish, his ears, legs and tail are darker brown, and he's wearing lovely white snowshoes!

He also has a white chest and belly, a white point on his perfect face and the dearest little beauty mark on the tip of his nose. Quite the stunner, I must say.

    Nice to see you back!

  40. After seeing this little boy, I think Matt now wants ANOTHER kitten... or two... or three. He's obsessed! Someone help! :)

I've actually been suggesting that if he's serious we'll need a bigger house!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Richard - wasn't Matt the one who initially wasn't too sure about having 3? They're addicting!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Percy sure knows how to turn on the charm! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Aww, the sweetest little face! Once again Sue provides such a wonderful and loving job to these precious babies.

Nance - thanks for sending a note our way, he looks totally relaxed in your arms. Sounds like Olive will adjust well to the big sister roll

  44. Wow, that is some amazingly quick bonding! What a sweet union. :)
