Getting to Know Drew, Getting to Know All About Drew
The kittens were sitting on the end of the couch. They had just started to settle in for a nap when all of sudden, their focus shifted towards the dining room.
Miss Drewey had snuck into the dining room and was hiding under the table.
Norman was the brave one. He slowly climbed off the couch and skirted along the wall until he reached his safe spot beneath the chest in the dining room. From this much closer vantage point, he carefully observed Drewey.
After a few moments, he tip-toed across the dining room for an even closer look.
Then he inched too close. Drewey flicked her tail, gave him a hiss, and off he dashed into the kitten room.
The Ashbys on the couch stayed put. Eventually, Drewey slipped away. Norman napped in the closet for the rest of the afternoon.

Too cute. There's always one, isn't there? Almost fearless.
ReplyDeleteIt was our Thomas Tabby who decided that he was going to stand up to the dog - He swiped his paw on the digs nose and rew blood AFAIKR...
ReplyDeleteSooty on the other hand tried to bury himself in the cushions...
What a wonderful series of photos. I love the fourth one down, where Brave Norman is trotting across the shiny hardwood floor toward Drewey. Norman's tail is atilt, pointed forward in the Curious Kitten position, and his head is slightly lowered in respect to Queen Drewey. Meanwhile, the Queen waits for her tiny subject to get Just Close Enough before she lets him know he's reached the border.
ReplyDeleteI can just hear the Couch Ashbys cheering Norman on. "G'head Norman! Check her out. We're right behind you." I'd've spent the rest of the afternoon napping in the closet, too.
The first photo spells "alert" all over, I love it!
ReplyDeleteAlthough it took me a while to find the tabby kitten, but he's there, too...
Norman out!
ReplyDeleteSort of off-topic but - your house looks just absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It is safe to say that I'm very very jealous.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, isn't it funny how they know that Butterbean wants to be friends and they can rush up to her right off, but to the queen...! Interesting!
They are so cute and wee. I'm in love with Bunny. (anon just because I don't have a google account)
Cute!
ReplyDelete"Hi! I'm Norman! Nice to meet you! What's your name?"
"I'm Queen Drewy. Now p*ss off!"
"Um...okey dokey then!"
I knew little floofy Norman would be the brave one. He's a little kitten ambassador of love.
ReplyDeleteStormin' Norman! What a cute, brave, lovin' little guy! *snorgles* Glad he had a safe closet to run to!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh he is so brave! Better watch out for that one - he'll be trying to explore everywhere! Those pictures are amazing - I am so impressed you got all the stages. You must be very patient. The first picture of them all together is great. I like that they all stick together - I wish I could get my cats to do that!
ReplyDeleteGreat story! Poor Norman, for all his trouble, really got put in his place. I think this is the first time I've seen Drewy, too. Wonderful pictures, as always. Aren't you glad you were in position to take those shots?
ReplyDeleteNorman totally cracks me up. What a great set of action photos!
ReplyDeleteAs other posters have said, you have a very lovely home.
All I can say is "awww". I love brave kitties but have a special place in my heart for the 'fraidy cats too!
ReplyDeleteSoooo cute! How can you stand all the cuteness? ;)
ReplyDeleteThese pictures cry out for hover text! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHey, anon, you can be yourself by clicking NAME and then giving yourself a name in the space. From then on, when you click name, put the first letter in the space and it'll offer you yours.
At least I think that's how it worked for me a long time ago when I joined the groupies. We'd like to get to know you.
This was a brilliant sequence of shots :) From the first one where they're all huddled together, to the last shot of Norman heading for safety...just perfect. Please give brave little Norman an extra hug from me for being so fearless :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see Miss Drewey!
ReplyDeleteAnd brave, brave boy! I hate that he spent all that time in the closet - but if he's anything like my fraidy cat Jonah, he ran there to hide, got comfy, fell asleep, then forgot that he was scared!
Drewey is having NONE of it.
ReplyDelete(I hope lil norman didnt think that might be mama... that would be sad)
Well done Norman! :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent set of photographs, and gorgeous kittens.
My new mama is slowly introducing me to my new flatmates, as they're not so easily charmed.
Wonderful pics Laurie! And what a brave little guy Norman is... so sweet .. - Jeanne
ReplyDeleteI just love these photo-essays of dialy life in your kitten-full home!
ReplyDeleteKeep 'em coming!
and Thanks!
Haha sweet...
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, brave Norman. But the best is seeing Drewey and her Queenly ways.
ReplyDeleteOh Laurie, we're so much alike! Except that my conglomeration of pottery is cream, not blue. What a great bombe chest.
ReplyDeleteThe Ashby Adventures are sooo very exciting!
ReplyDeleteAnd Queen Drewey just enjoys her own purrsonal space and enforces the boundaries firmly. her contribution to the raising of kitties.
Miss Charlene must have wanted to bathe yung Normah to help soothe the "trauma".
Precious! Stormin' Norman indeed -
ReplyDeleteLove the first photo of the Ashby gang, and then the sequence of Norman and Drewey. It's nice to meet the Queen, too!
Brave little guy! He knew when to take "no" for an answer, too. Wise. Very wise.
ReplyDeleteNow, if only I had floors that shiny :) My kittehs are cute in a growed-up way. And I'm working on the floors!
Poor Normie...getting hissed at for his braveness!
ReplyDeleteOh the poor brave traumatized little boy . . . didn't Charlene Butterbean come to the rescue?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the other kittens dared him. Too cute.
ReplyDeletewhat a perfect sequence of shots!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brave little Norman! I love his little round head. I am falling so much for this little guy, but who knows, next week it could be Rupert. Or Bunny. Or Clovis. Or perhaps Milton. Ok. I've fallen for all of them!
ReplyDeleteAwww, such a brave boy! My older cat, Tristan, was very grumpy when I got Galahad as a kitten. He'd growl and hiss, but Galahad just hero worshiped him, followed him around the house, imitated how he laid down, and even hopped into the litter box with him.
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos, amazing blog, and what amazing people you must be! As the proud caretake of six cats at my place I remember so well the absolute joy that little kittens bring in your life. That Charlene Butterbean is a pretty amazing girl! Thank you for sharing your itty bitty kitties with us all!
ReplyDeleteSuch a brave little soldier! Super sweet series of photos.
ReplyDeleteThat last picture of him scooting away is a classic.
