Getting to Know These Darling Kittens
From top top bottom (or left to right):
Selma, Hubie, Rhoda, Francine, and Lucinda.
These little Darlings are about four or five weeks old, which is is a little younger than our last few litters. They are pretty tiny, and only weigh between 12 ounces and a pound.
Their mama was a feral cat, and they were brought into the Humane Society on Monday. They were just a tiny bit scared at first. Little Hubie and Lucinda would hiss if you moved in a little too close. Once you held them for a second,it would stop. By day two, the hissing stopped completely, and now you're greeted with a purr or cry hello instead.
They are super active. They've got speed, but not coordination. They are most interested in playing with each other right now, and spend lot of time wrestling and rolling around.
Their Darling little personalities are starting to shine already, and it's been a pleasure getting to know them.
So far this is what we've seen:
Francine: Big talker. She cries hello, pick me up, put me down, feed me, feed me, feed me, love me.
Selma: Always happy to see a human. She waddles right up to say hello and will climb up in your lap.
Hubie: Big kitten in a tiny body, super animated, purr, purr, purrsonality plus!
Rhoda: Run, run, Rhoda! Curious little thing. LOVES to wrestle. Purrs while eating. Once fell asleep in her food dish.
Lucinda: Sweet, sweet, sweet purring machine. Total cuddler.

Why, yes please, I'll have one of each....OH but I wish I could! They way they curl around each other -- Several of us have asked before, but: how on EARTH do you get a single THING done??? I'd just lie around admiring and stroking and snorgling and cuddling.........{sigh}
ReplyDeleteOh they are lovely. I think I can hear them purring from here. :)
ReplyDeleteAfter a long hard crazy day at work, before I get home to my two older cats (whom I adore, of course), checking this site right now has made my pooped-outedness just disappear with happy sighs of the cute little critters and your great photos. I'm glad we'll know these kids a little longer than the last few sets. They come & go so quickly! Thanks for the happy kittiness!
ReplyDeleteLove the kitten pile. Sigh... makes me happy to see them. Thank you!

I'm mainly glad of one thing- I don't have to _choose_ which one I love the most! Miss Flora and Mr. Cicero are here to give me snorgles and we can Admire from Afar. Lordy them are darling babies!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to learn why these kittens are taken away from their Mama so early? Not criticizing as I'm sure there is a good reason......
ReplyDeleteTracy,
ReplyDeleteWhenever possible, shelters and rescues keep mamas and babies together until they are weaned. If they are separated, it's usually because of medical or behavioral issues.
With the Darlings, their mama was a feral cat. They were dropped off at the Humane Society without her.
Good thing too, if they would of stayed out there in the wild, we would be fostering the Darling girls' babies next spring.
There are lots of foster parents that take in mamas with their babies. We just foster orphaned kittens.
