Looks just like my cat as a baby, brings back alot of sweet memories. Ditto to Melissa, I have an extra special soft spot for those tabby boys. Hubie melts my heart.
I just adopted a 9 week old kitten which was a feral rescue, and I am wondering if you have ever dealt with taming a skittish kitten and if anyone has any advice for me? So far, chicken flavored baby food has been a godsend!
linda- my many years of cat ownership have taught me that patience is a virtue with the skittish kitten. if you just wait for her to come to you it would be best. just sit with your chicken flavored baby food jar in hand and soon you will be the love of her life!
HUBIE has got to be the cutest little sweetie I have ever seen! hes SO teenie!
Such an intense little face, how can you NOT be smitten wif de kitten!?
I found out while making friends with kittens it helps to get into a quiet room and lie down at their level, allow them to approach and snuggle up. Purr a little (just air, no noise) if you can (trilled r sort of thing). Even go to sleep- anything to be non-threatening.
Hi, I tried your email link but it would not work. I live in Northern Kentucky (the largest city near me is Cincinnati, Ohio). There is a litter of newborn kittens under my nextdoor neighbor's deck, and I want to rescue them. Do you know of any group in my area that might help? Thanks. Judy
linda,,yes, patience and time are the key. your kitty is young enough to earn your trust.
judy,, i'm sorry i personally don't know of any rescues of in your area, but in a city as large as Cincinnati, it seems there should be plenty. as previously suggested, petfinder would be good place to start. or maybe ask your local vet.
Thank you everyone for your kind advice. I didn't mean to hijack Hube's comment thread. Looking at these well fed, well loved and dearly cared for little faces every day makes me want every kitten to feel as safe and cared for!
Linda, I rescued a 3 week old feral kitten from our back yard, and all I can say is give them time. They will tell you when they need space, and when they want love. Skittish kitties just need space and time!
He IS the cutest thing. That sweet little muzzle! I bet he'd get along great with my 'boys' Buzzo and Colby, and a classic tabby would be a nice addition to my collection. (Buzzo is a black dlh and Colby is a dilute red tabby dsh)
Really too bad I live all the way across the country from ya.

ReplyDeleteWarning!
ReplyDeleteStaring intently at those big ole eyes for any length of time will render even the toughest into a Hubie slave.
But then again, what would be wrong with that?!
Hubbie won't have any problems finding a home if he keeps that up!
