THIS is a First!
Drewey loves spending time on the back deck. It's nice and high so she has an excellent view of our yard. She can see several doors down, and keep a watch on the yelping beagle to the left, and the spastic black dog to the right. If a roaming cat cuts through the yard, she sees them, but they don't see her.
The deck heats up in the afternoon sun, so it's the ideal spot to lounge and nap. This is HER space and she's happiest here.
The weather was lovely yesterday so Craig and I decided to join Drewey on the deck while we lunched. Benny was by the door when we headed out, so I let him come along.
As you all know, Drewey RARELY expresses any interest in the kittens at all, but this time she walked right over to Benny Musselman and gave him a hello sniff. There was no hissing, growling, or bottle brush tails from either party. It was just a friendly little "how do you do". I've NEVER seen her do this before.
After their little exchange, Benny ran off and explored the deck. Drewey just sat by us and watched.
I was happy Craig and I got to witness this sweet moment, and thankful I had my camera right there so I could share it with you.
Of course, when Drewey came back in for dinner and found the kittens bouncing in the kitchen, she gave them her best "children, play elsewhere" glare which sent them all scrambling.

Too bad Benny has already been spoken for -- that two cat limit may have changed!!!!
ReplyDeleteI heart Drewey!
Aaaw! Lovely little Benny melted Drewy's heart for just a moment.
ReplyDeleteBenny got to the old girl, eh?
ReplyDeleteHow cool is this?!? What a sweet picture, I guess little Benny could melt anyone's heart, even Miss Drewey. So glad you were there to capture it Laurie!
ReplyDeleteAwww! Secretly I'd hoped for a moment like this since I discovered your blog ... how sweet!
ReplyDeleteOf course Drewey likes Benny. Benny is adorable, and Drewey is classy. I'm glad he has a home, and I hope he and his new humans have lots of upside down naps together.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Charlene isn't the only girl with a soft spot for tabby boys. I think Drewey has secretly been smitten for years. Way to go, Benny Boy!
ReplyDeleteBenny is a lover... Not even Drewey can resist!
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that Benny knows exactly the right signs and signals to approach the queen of your household. What a wonderful shot...miracles do happen, but how often do we see photographic evidence of them?
ReplyDeleteOh that is such a wonderful picture! That HAS to be an IBKC card - it is to perfect!
ReplyDeleteSee! Drewey knows special when she sniffs it!
ReplyDeleteIt still takes my breath away that little Benny looks so much like my Morgan did when she was little.
I love Drewey.
that's so sweet my teeth hurt.
ReplyDeleteIf any kitten could get Drewey to warm up to him, it would be Benny! That's a very sweet picture.
ReplyDeleteAnd Benny, if you're ever in Virginia, I'll sniff noses with you anytime.
I hope this is the start of Drewey being nicer to the foster kittens. I love the picture of them touching noses.
ReplyDeleteYou know how much I heart the Drewster lady. Very cute!
ReplyDeleteAWWWWWWWW a nosey kiss! I love that.
ReplyDeleteIt warms the cockles of my heart to hear this story. That little guy *is* pretty cute!
I agree with Amy, this picture has got to be a card! It's amazing. How about a Drewey set of cards? She's a lovely lady in her own right.
ReplyDeleteAnd, that Benny... sigh for those tabby boys.
I am all asque at the cute! Go Drewey!
ReplyDeleteCarys
It must be Benny's laid back, How-ya-doing attitude that Drewey liked. That picture is one the best ones EVER!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me feel so happy.
ReplyDeleteAwww, nose rubbing!
ReplyDeleteYay!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a sign Benny should stay with you at IBKC HQ - you did say you had a thing for tabby boys!!
ReplyDeleteJust priceless. Honestly.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I agree that Benny looks like he and dear Drewey might be related.
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! So happy we got to see this!
ReplyDeleteAw...that's really sweet!
ReplyDeleteAWw and I remember Charlene was totally head of heels when she saw Benny...
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwww! I'm glad you always have your camera at the ready.
ReplyDeleteAww, I knew Drewey would warm up at some point, maybe it was becuase she was only confronted by one baby instead of a group.
ReplyDeleteI knew it!!! Drewey's a softy! So glad you had your camera there to capture this moment...such a cute pic >^..^<
ReplyDeleteThat Benny is quite a charmer!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. So Drewey has a soft spot in her heart. We just had to wait for it :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a very sweet picture. I always enjoy posts about the Drewster.
ReplyDeleteWe love Drewey! You've given us hope that Suey might take a liking to our fosters one day:)
ReplyDeleteWho knew? I thought it 'twas music which soothed the savage beast!
ReplyDeleteBut I guess we'll have to add Benny to the list of Drewey soothers.
Aaaaw Drewey, letting your soft side shine through :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, your secret is safe with us!
Whew! I was relieved that at the end, Drewey reverted to form with her best "disapproving schoolmarm" face and scowled at the mischief-making itty bitties. I did enjoy her momentary curiosity about Benny, however. I mean, who else but Benny? Really. What's not to love?
ReplyDeleteI think that Drewey's role in the raising of the itty bitties is to remind them to have respect for our elders, to teach them that we're not all the same, but that nonetheless, we're all God's creatures and there's room for all of us. And maybe on this day, it was to show them that there's the capacity for change in everyone.
I love "sweet" (I have Golden Retrievers) and I'm head-over-heels in love with Charlene Butterbean, but Drewey rocks, too.
Drewey has a very special place in my heart. I don't see her as cold or withdrawn at all, just a girl who follows her own path. And I heartily second the idea of a set of Drewey cards. I'd buy a couple of sets in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteDrewey was won over by a very special boy kitty.
ReplyDeleteBenny showed just the right amount of deference and respect - and cuteness.
so sweet!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of my kitty baby Rose. Rosie's just a little thing, around 5 months, but she has impressive mood swings. She punishes me by ignoring any coaxing or petting for most of the night after I get home from work. But then, every night, after I go to bed .. up jumps little Rosie to let me know that she really does love me with incessant purring and nose kisses. It warms my heart ☺
ReplyDeleteYou know, this may be one of my favorite Drewey pictures. I love this one. :) I know you miss her, but you've got some awesome memories.
