The Finch Report....

DSC_0124

I stopped by Vet Treatment this morning to visit the boys. Walter was having a snack, and Ira was all hunkered down in a little box inside their cage.

Walter seemed perky, not quite playful, but perky. I held him for awhile and he seemed happy to see me. After I was through giving him some love, I scooped up Ira. I thought he seemed a little weaker than yesterday, but seeing a perkier Walter, gave me hope for Ira.

When I put him back into his cage, he had a little drink, then stepped into his litter box. His poo was a tad thicker than the gushers of previous days, which is a good thing.

The staff was awfully busy in there, so I didn't get a chance to ask too many questions. I hope to speak with them later today.

We're missing the boys terribly, but putting their care into someone else's hands, is a bit of a relief. I gave their room a good clean yesterday, and laundered all their blankets. As soon as they're ready to come home, we're ready for them.

Thanks again for all your thoughtful comments and notes. We really appreciate them.

Thank you for caring and loving the kittens like they're your own. It means the world.

xo Laurie

PS The photo above was taken the day (or maybe the day after) they moved in with us.

  1. I cannot count how many times I've checked in today, hoping for not bad news. This is good enough for now. Trying not to think how uncomfy their tiny butts must be and sending love.

  5. Poor little angels. You just hang in there, kitties! You have a whole world of people you'll never know cheering for you to get better, so you can meet Miss Butterbean!

  6. I, too, have checked a gazillion times today for news. My thoughts and prayers are with little Walter & Ira - and with you, too Laurie. I can only imagine how difficult this is for you. Yet, I understand the relief that they are being cared for by the vet. It is hard nursing little critters who can't let you know exactly what's going on or how they are feeling.

You're all in my heart & prayers! My pups and cats send purrs and good wishes, too.

  25. Come on lil guys - get better so Auntie Charlene can heal you with her love and licking!

I'm a long time, die hard pet lover. For all of the joy our furry friends give us, there is heartache when they are ill or when they (never happily for us) pass on. But they are worth it - there is something so sweet and special about the unconditional love and trust of animals.

These little guys, and all of your fosters, know that you are there for them. Cats know, dogs know (I'll never forget my late grandparents' rescue dog Barkey who definitely know that he'd had a bad start and appreciated the kind people who loved him and gave him a good life). I don't know - maybe even ferrets know.

Ira and Walter know too. Whatever happens, they got lucky when they got to come home with you.

  35. I'm glad to read of some signs of improvement. Was thinking about those two bitty boys all day - helped in part by the fact that I took a way home from shopping on a road I did not know existed until earlier this week. Pettibone Lane. So the IBKC were much in my mind today.

Continued thoughts and wishes for improving health.

  39. Awww, we do love those little boys. If it's any comfort, we once temporarily took in a tiny kitten who had the most dreadful squits. The vet took care of him. He made a complete recovery and we were able to find him a new family.

  45. I know just what you mean about the relief of being able to stand down from the constant care and watching-like-a-hawk.

Continuing to send "good health and strength" vibes to the boys.

  46. I love that, for animal people,it's perfectly normal to get excited about thicker poo.

I'm really happy that they're holding on. You have my prayers and good wishes.

  47. Still sending good vibes to the kittens, especially lil Ira. I hope he can feel the love!

  48. I've only *just* started following your blog (unlurking as we speak), and almost I feel like I jinxed it. Reading back and seeing the multitudes of happy, cuddly, fuzzy, warm itty bitsies gives me hope that these two will end up just as fine as all the others have. Hang in there, tiny brothers!

Newbie question: how come so many kittens end up at the shelter at such a tender age and motherless, at that?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks so much for the update - I asked the cat blogospher to add them to the sick kitties list yesterday so we can get as much goodness as possible headed their way. We really do love them like they are our own - we are so glad they are in such good, caring hands (both yours and the vets).

  50. Laurie, thanks for keeping us posted about Walter and Ira. Poor little guys! I assume you and the vets are all over what's causing this, including food allergies? One of my boys(now a robust 5-year-old) had ferociously runny poo as a kitten. It cleared up as soon as we got him food that was free of corn. FWIW. :-)
Take care, and thanks for your blog. I check in daily for a kitten fix-- it really lightens my day.
