The Good, the Bad and the Blurry

I put together a little movie for you all. What you'll see is pretty much every single picture I took of The Finches. It's 3.5 minutes and there are nearly 1800 images. It's unedited, so there are plenty of blurry, under/over exposed, or just plain duds. You can see how many shots I have to take to get just a handful of post-worthy pictures.

It goes by pretty fast, that's intentional. It wasn't trying to make it a slide show where you can pause on the pictures. Instead, more of an animated short that shows the kittens from day one to departure.

Enjoy! But don't blink! You might miss something....

  1. Way wonderful! now you have to do this with every batch. Do you think your kittens spend so much time sleeping on their backs because you spend so much time hold ing them on your lap/legs in that position?
Thank you Laurie, I love this!

  2. OH MAH GAWD. *dead of cute*

Favorite moments: Walter stretching his toes while lying in the suitcase, and Charlene nuzzling/washing the boys. Awwwww <3

  3. Oh my gosh! It really looked like an action flick! It's adorable to get glimpses of the Bean washing and Ira burrowing and Walter yakking.

  4. Oh no, I won't say I'll do this with every batch. It takes a LONG time to do it... The Finches were easier because fewer kittens means fewer pictures.

As for sleeping on their backsides... who knows.

  8. That was wonderful. Ira and Walter are so preshus. We so hope their new forever-parents know just how lucky they are. Those two boys should be adored ~ they deserve to be!

  10. Thanks - that's got to be a great peek into the mind and methods. Having worked hard to get good pictures of my cats I'm almost surprised there are only 1800 pictures.

  11. I think I beg to disagree on the "handful of post-worthy pictures". I saw several hundred pics I'd love to see in detail...

This was a very unexpected treat! I can understand you won't always have to resources to do this, but we can always come back to watch the Finches play. I bet this won't grow stale *that* soon. :-)
[Resisting the urge of watching it again - and again - and again.]

  16. Oh my GOSH. My heart is bursting with love for these two little guys. <3 The raised and slowly lowered little legs in the suitcase nearly killed me! :D Absolutely adorably precious. And that Bean! She is one special kitty, raising so many kitties. Kisses all around! xo

  17. Thank you so much for doing that. I was sitting here watching with such joy in my heart.

Walter in the suitcase and Ira with the flowers were my two favorite moments.

  18. That was amazing!!

Even though these are taken over several weeks you could title it "Life of kittens for a day". It seems like with all their energy they could do all that in one day :)

I loved, loved, loved the sequence of Walter in the suitcase too..too adorable with his little legs splayed out and stretching.

    Thanks so much for sharing!!

  20. I watched it while listening to Lady Gaga's song "Dance in the Dark" and it was so funny to see teh kittehs dancing to the song!

    Thanks!!

  21. That was so cute. It needed old-timey piano music.

  22. Loved it! Won't demand one for every batch since it takes too long and don't want to be greedy.
But can I make one teeny request? It's always hard to visualize how little the itty-bitties are. Can you take a pic (maybe while they are sleeping) of them next to something we might have in our houses - like a dollar bill or a Post-it or a Kleenex box - so we can look and say "wow! they really are itty-bitty!"
    Thanks? Love ya!

  26. Wonderful. I bet as we watch it again and again (and you know we will) we will see different things each time. I especially loved the kitties playing with your dad and, of course, being Butterbeaned!
    Thank you, Laurie!

  27. yes, that was fun! i liked the animation-type sequences!
i have a question for you folks...a friend at work rescued a kitten from her cold back porch, gave it a warm towel from the dryer, and milk, but when she got it to the vet, they couldn't save her. I told my friend "you gave her a great last night on earth!" I'd really like to show her the ibkc post about the kitten with no tail and some health issues, who got to spend his last afternoon outdoors? Can anyone help me find this one?
    Much thanks!, laurenbgood

  28. That was fun! Thanks for posting. You really do a lot of work for each litter of kittens that come through. Your camera must have a multi-picture function to get the scenes that look animated. Those were the best! Thank you!!

  29. lauren, if you click on the label "jerry lee" (lower right hand side of blog) you'll find his whole story.

  35. Awesome! I had my iTunes on and got to watch this great movie to the song History Repeating by the Propellerheads - featuring Miss Shirley Bassey. It was a happy coincidence but the music seemed so fitting. Love what you do here and thanks for always bringing a smile to my face!

  38. This is lovely and loving! And it was hilarious the other two times I watched it!

I love Walter looking like he is passed out from a catnip bender in the suitcase! Boneless and shameless!

And I agree, Ira is beautifully accessorized with those La La Laurie flowers!

  39. That's adorable! It looks like a music video for their band.

  40. I love this! They look like a pair of furry bobbleheads. My fave was when one of them was scouting Charlene's tummy just in case she might be hiding a little snack. And was there a brief flash of you in there somewhere?

  51. I'm so glad the Finch boys were able to be adopted together - they're such a pair! The pictures of them on your dad are just priceless.

  52. Okay, this is really cool. Just as I started the photo display my iTunes kicked out The Cure's song "Just Like Heaven." I swear it syncs up to the show beautifully! Its almost like it was edited to match the song. Give it a try and see what I mean. Just one of those funny little coincidences. Back to lurking.

  53. Wow! This was such a great insight into how much joy these little kittens must give you everyday, though the good and the bad.

Quick question: I just got a Nikon D40, but I'm not too familiar with the functions. What setting do you normally use to capture so many great pictures?
