Friends, You Did it Again....

DSC_0183

I got word from Marguerite, the developmental director over at our Humane Society, that quite a few donations were made in honor of our dear Drewey. : )

We both agreed that this money needed to be earmarked for something special, and decided that the senior cats should benefit from it some how.

Often the senior cats are in need of a little extra something... dental work, a procedure, etc to get them to a more "adoptable" state. We thought these funds should be made available to the vet staff to use for seniors in need of a little something.

So thanks to your thoughtfulness and generosity,, you are making a difference in the lives of several seniors! If I get wind of how the money is used, I'll be sure to share the stories with you.

How wonderful is that?? !! It makes my heart swell. And I know Drewey would approve.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  3. I think that's a great idea!!! I'm an adoption counselor at Cat Adoption Team in the Portland area, and I know a lot of people love the serenity and affection of senior cats but are often worried about higher vet costs. It's always very much appreciated by the humans who fall in love with a senior kitty when the shelter has already done a good amount of dental work or treated other medical issues, it makes it that much easier to place a great kitty in a great home.

  4. That makes me really happy. My senior foster definitely has some issues and it's tough for the shelter to afford the expenses so the fosters pay most of it. Such great cats though.

  5. The Rooster continues to work her magic. First she turns you into a cat person, secretly knowing you'll establish the IBKC. And now she continues to spread her love, this time sharing with her senior sweeties. Go Drewey!

  6. P.S. LOVE the picture. In her garden, sun on her back, Drewey in her happy place.

  12. As soon as I wipe the tears away, I'll be back...

On behalf of senior cats at the Tacoma HS and all shelter & rescues ~ THANKS to the IBKC community for this incredible gesture of support. So many lives will be saved, so many cats will continue to bless families with their wise presence. This is an amazing bunch.

  13. fab news - senior are harder to find adoptive homes for, and anything that makes it a little easier is great. Aren't people lovely?

  14. Aw dang it, Laurie. You always know how to tug at my heartstrings. To the readers of IBKC who have the funds available to help, I know so many lives will be improved by this kind gesture. I don't now unfortunately but I'll hug my shelter kitties extra hard tonight. <3

  15. I love IBKC and Drewey was an inspiration to all who aspire to her spirit of Crank.

So much joy here, it is impossible to resist my furry girls' urging to spend this quarter's toy budget on other senior kitties who need homes.

I am glad you posted about people doing this. I wish I had thought of it myself. I love Charlene and the kitties, but I really fell hard for Drewey. This is a wonderful way for me to honor her memory.

  21. I can't believe the amount of tears I have shed over a kitty I have never met and now a generous group of strangers has led me to tears again. What wonderful people there are out there. I visit IBKC multiple times a day and the people and the cats touch my heart every time.

  22. Leanna R. - Amen, sister. Amen. (I'm a multiple-times-a-day offender myself.)

Spouse & I will be making a donation to the Tacoma/Pierce County Humane Society -- and to our local HS -- in honor of Ms. Drewey and our very own cranky old sister-girls (who both crossed the Bridge in the last two years at 19 and 20) ... and of course to support all those other senior kitties in need of some (ahem) pre-adoption "salon services."

Blessings for all you do, Laurie.

  23. this is so heartwarming. it's amazing how your blog and miss drewey inspired people to make donations. and what a great decision to use it for the older cats! senior cats often get neglected in favor of the younger, easier-to-care for cats. they are definitely in need of extra love, and if i weren't a poor college student, i would make a donation in a heartbeat, and will once i have the funds. in the meantime i will spend more time snuggling my three adopted kitties <3

What a beautiful and serene photo of Miss Drewey. It seems that not only in this world she made a difference for you Laurie but is also helping to make a difference for some senior kitties in their world. God bless those who chose to donate. You are angels in disguise.

  25. What a wonderful and touching tribute and legacy for Drewey! I work with a rescue called Heaven on Earth Society for Animals that deals primarily with senior and special needs cats in the Los Angeles area, and I can't tell you how heartwarming it is to see such an outpouring that will aid oft-overlooked, but oh-so-amazing senior adoptables.

  26. I just donated in memory of Drewey to my favorite animal rescue charity, A Dog's Life Rescue, based in L.A. They rescue animals on the street or those abandended by owners and foster them until they find their forever families. They're a great charity and they're endorsed by Jared Padalecki from Supernatural.

  27. That is so awesome! My Sam is 21 years old, and fighting cancer. I'm so glad you all have such a special place in your hearts for the older ladies and gents!

  28. P.S. Sweet dreams, sweet Drewey.

  29. I tried to donate to the Humane Society but it wouldn't take my details as I'm in the UK, so I've donated to my local cat charity (Cats Protection) instead, in memory of Drewey and my own Zuzu. All our love, Ruth and Tom xxx
