When I took the kittens in for shots and microchipping the other day, I saw this little adorable kitten oddity in the foster room.
I've never seen such a kitten before. He looks part kitten and part wolverine.
He had two siblings, but I was only able to get a picture of this little girl. What an unusual beauty! The third was a tabby and a little more "average" looking.
And here's mama cat.. She's a sweet girl, a very good mother, and looks quite normal when compared to her children.
I wish we could take this family in,, just so we could see them all grow up.
Have you ever seen kitten like this before??
I get the same feeling from these adorables as I did from Sue's March 31 post about Frannie's lost siblings. Very Other Worldly.
ReplyDeleteI guess with six in house there's no way we can convince you to take on this dear family. : -(
I have never seen coloring like this before. Quite unusual. Mama is so beautiful too, such an expressive face.
ReplyDeleteNo idea what they are... but they're gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy kitty looked a lot like that as a kitten. She was dropped off in a box of kittens at 1 day old with no momma. She started off all gray. As she grew the gray got longer and black coat filled in underneath for the cool layered look you see in this kitten. She stayed that color until about 6 months and then the black grew out and the gray became undercoat. She's a gorgeous long-haired black cat
ReplyDeleteThe little girl looks like a lynx!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful kitties, love the kittens and mama cat is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThey are definitely the most unique looking litter I've seen., and I've enjoyed watching them grow and change from day to day. That's the best part about keeping them in the shelter's foster room. We all get to enjoy them. :)
ReplyDeletethat little girl is breathtaking. I have such a soft spot for tabby kitties.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, he really looks human, especially in his mouth. Kind of looks like Michael Jackson as a wolf man in the Beat It video.
ReplyDeleteMaybe?
They both look so wild and wise. The boy should be named Gandalf! Look at the gray ear hair.
ReplyDeleteKeep an eye on them for us, Laurie. They look special.
No we haven't ~ but they do look very unusual. We hope they get loving homes soon.
ReplyDeleteVery adorable and striking!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing them with us.
Too bad the other girl wasn't willing to be photographed.
Sigh....
Totally agree with serfer0....he looks almost part human! The little girl is so unusual too. She and mom are gorgeous! Hope we get updates on this family.
ReplyDeleteThere is NO SUCH THING as an "average" tabby. :)
ReplyDeleteLaurie, I'm surprised that you would say such a thing... lol..
Gorgeous! Never seen that type of kitty before. Would love to see them grow up :)
ReplyDeleteI think the white one is Siamese/Long Haired tabby. She's going to grow up to be a beauty! The black with white sprinkles - I bet he'll grow a mane :), I've seen adult cats that look like him, and they almost always have a mane or ruff of thick hair around the neck. He's cute too!
ReplyDeleteAnon.. "average" meaning 100 percent tabby,, not part tabby/ part other-worldly creature
ReplyDeleteThe first picture reminds me of Michael Landon in "I Was A Teenaged Werewolf"
ReplyDeleteSome lucky human is going to get some FAB looking kittens! THe boy is mesmerizing! And Mama is not too shabby either. THanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree with anon... I think the first guy looks a lot like a little were-cat. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat unusual markings! Love the black/silver looking kitten's coloring. Wolverine kitten is right. Wow!
ReplyDeleteI believe they will grow up to be superheroes.
ReplyDeleteYes! I've seen kittens like that at Cat Adoption Team, but only once. There were three boys. Two had a black coat with white wisps on top and the same adorable white ear fluff as this little man. They were so beautiful! Those two got adopted together and one eventually lost absolutely all the white off his coat. The other brother still has lighter furs, but now they are more grey and lie closer to the black coat.
ReplyDeleteThe third sibling wasn't quite so fluffy as the other-worldly tabby muffin in the second photo, but also had that white coating on top of a grey tabby patter. That boy went to live with a family I know. He lost all of the white within a few months of adoption, then re-grew it back on his paws, belly, and face. He looks like a funny lion.
All the three brothers had the best personalities. I'm glad these little ones have such a great mama cat.
I don't know what they are but I want, want, want!! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThe fluffy boy up top should be named 'Benicio' for the very handsome and unusual-looking Wolfman, Benicio del Toro.
ReplyDeleteUnusual looks indeed! Very cool. Mama looks like a sweetie :)
ReplyDeletethats the ellusive TABSASQUAITTEN.
ReplyDeleteFrom the forests of the pacific Northwest.
dont ya know... :)
gorgeous!
Oh little scruffamuffins!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the little boy should be named Benicio. That's PERFECT!
"back away from the nipple, and no one gets hurt".
ReplyDeleteI want my mommy. A werecat and a ghost kitty. Strangely unnerving photos.
ReplyDeleteGrey kitty looks like he has a goatee. What cuties.
ReplyDeletehttp://pitterpatsofbabycats.blogspot.com/2010/03/frannys-brothers.html is the only place I've ever seen kittens who look like that... :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy kitten (I still call her that even though she's totally big and fat now) had these really intricate black patterns that looked almost like lightning streaks. Especially on her head, where they came down into several little spiky W-shapes. What with her long, serious little face, she looked almost like she should be the pet of one of the people from Pandora in Avatar.
Now her pattern has spread as she got bigger, and she looks a little more like an ordinary tabby. Except occasionally, when she gets this crazy little gleam in her eye...she's a wildcat at heart.
To me they look like a mix of Sand Cats, I think from the middle east. Wiki it.
ReplyDeleteIt's really difficult for me to tell if the black kitten is brindle or tipped; it would require examination of individual hairs to determine. I've seen black kittens with a smattering of white hairs that did not re-grow in when the adult coat emerge. But this particular little kitten seems to have quite a bit!
ReplyDeleteThe following website has interesting information on feline coloration genetics:
http://www.messybeast.com/catarchive.htm#genetics
There are at least two photos of "grizzled" cats found in the "Indefinable Colours" section. If his adult coat comes in with the white hairs, chances are he's either grizzled or black tipped white (both are unusual, genetically).
another of the kitty adopter blogs i follow talked about this colouration and the phrase Blacked smoked maine coone/norwegian forest was suggested.
ReplyDeleteWhat stunning kits! I bet Mama has some stories to tell. :->
ReplyDeleteDo you think it is the beard? Very unusual kitten. He will probably loose all of his "specialness" and end looking like his mother. But she is a beauty!
ReplyDelete"Mew..." <"Snikt snikt, bub...">
ReplyDeleteHe definitely looks half human, my immediate thought was La Belle et La Bete, except that this guy is so handsome Belle would have been won over in a heartbeat, end of story.
ReplyDeleteWolverine Kitty looks like a distant, wilder cousin of Olly Musselman to me... I think it's the expression on his face that reminds me of him.
ReplyDeleteBoth his sister and mom are gorgeous - it looks like the mystery sibling is a silvery color, and probably also quite striking.
Agree with the werewolf comment! That was the first thing that popped into my head, a human face turning into a cute little werewolf. Adorable! paulajeanne and molly
ReplyDeleteMaybe they some kind of a mix with a bobcat or a wild cat
ReplyDeleteLaurie, is there any way you'd be able to let us know how things go for this little family? They're all so adorable.
ReplyDeleteIt looks to me as if Mummy-cat liked "a bit of rough" (as we say in England)!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable babies, though!
My cat looked JUST LIKE the kitten with the black fur and strange two-tone gray hair. He grew up into a sleek black cat and none of the fun gray stayed.
