The Berkeley East Bay Humane Society has suffered a tremendous loss. A fire destroyed a huge portion of their facility (cat sheltering area, laundry facility and offices) and sadly took the lives of fifteen of their cats.
They are need of monetary donations and foster families to temporarily house their dogs and cats. If there is any way you can contribute, please do.
To visit their website and make a donation, click here.
If you would like to volunteer, email volunteer@berkeleyhumane.org
Another way to help, is just by spreading the word. So please share, link or tweet their story.
Thanks, friends.
You can donate to them through Paypal. I did last night, even though I live a continent away in NY. Reading about this made me so sad. They really do need our help.

Thank you very much for running this. It's such a tragedy.
ReplyDeleteThank you all- This is a no-kill shelter and they take special care of cats with FLV. I live near Berkeley, and the kind folks at my work have started fundraising. If anyone in the bay area who is reading can foster a cat or dog, they need help with that, too.
ReplyDeleteI RTed this on Twitter. Hope some help will get through.
ReplyDeleteDonation made. Thank you for posting this Laurie. I am so encouraged that we call all get together and make something good happen from this awful event.
ReplyDeleteJust made a donation using Paypal.. very simple. Feels right. Join me, please.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting a way for us to help. I just donated and am sending this to the animal lovers on my email address list.

Just echoing what others have said - you can go to their site and click the "donate" button towards the bottom to make a PayPal donation. I hope every little bit will help!
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you, all you kind people who have donated. I'm a volunteer at the BEBHS and every little bit helps. It's a great organization and I still can't believe what happened.
ReplyDeleteI made a donation too. Fingers crossed all of the cats and dogs are safe, fed, warm, and watered for the moment and that the word has spread far enough for the shelter to know that there will be enough funds for them to continue taking care of their furry wards.
ReplyDeleteEvery little bit helps. Thank you everyone!!!!
ReplyDeleteWith gratitude,
BEBHS staff, volunteers, dogs, and cats
Thank you for this wonderful site and for your support for rebuilding the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society. Jane, Volunteer at BEBHS

ReplyDeleteNooooo! I moved to Seattle from Emeryville. My ex-roommates (who are my family in CA) adopted their beautiful and loving dog through them. Their staff is amazing. Their training services are amazing. They treat every cat and dog with such gentle care and respect and find all of them a home.
ReplyDeleteI donated. They made my home light up with the love that Tara brought. I hope people find it in their hearts to help them in this hour of need so they can keep providing such a wonderful service.
