This is my friend Opal. She's four years old, and she loves kitties.
She loves them so much, she has kitties on her shoes.
And she loves them so much, she brought a dollar and five pennies from her piggy bank to donate to our fundraiser. Originally she was going to bring one dollar and three pennies, but when she learned there were five kitties, she wanted to bring a penny for each. She had another dollar in her piggy bank, but she's saving that to buy her dad a coffee on Father's Day, next year.
I was so touched by her thoughtfulness. It just reminded me that ever single dollar (and penny) that has been given to our little fundraiser comes from the same place - a warm, compassionate, kitty-loving heart.
I appreciate every cent, and all the hearts that gave them.
Thank you, friends. We love you.
AWWWWwwwwwww...
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed sweet. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness! What a sweet little girl. It brings tears to my eyes (and yours, too, I'm sure!). Her parents are certainly doing something right with that one!
ReplyDeleteI love her logic about five pennies for five kittens. And saving to buy her dad a coffee? So cute.
Oh how sweet :-) between the pics of her and the pics of sweet boy Pinky - you're just killin' me. Going to go shake my piggybank and see what falls out!
ReplyDeleteAwww, what a sweet young lady!
ReplyDeleteso sweet! A sweet and adorable future Cat Lady.
ReplyDeleteChristine h
What a sweetheart! And she's holding my favorite kitty of the bunch! I do have a soft spot for black floofy kitties.
ReplyDeleteOkay Laurie, here I am about ready to start my weekend (read: drink) and I am doing it with tears welling up in my eyes. How cute is Opal?
ReplyDelete(It looks like you have found the person to take over tIBKC when you retire!)
I further hope (he continued rambling) that Opal knows that her $1.05 was what took this fundraiser from $39,998.95 to $40 squillion and that it couldn't have been done without her!
ReplyDeleteI heart Opal (and her wise parents). Love the pics: Heart to heart conversation in #1, tender loving cuddle in #2, cute little tootsies in those sweet flip flops in #3, and the essence of the fundraiser in #4, as described by Laurie's commentary. ♥
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful girl and $1.05 is a TON of money. I'd love to give that lovely young lady a big hug and tell her how great she is and that I'm very jealous of her snazzy flipflops...but I live all the way on the other side of the country. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let that .05 stand as a reminder to us all to dig just a little deeper, give just a little more.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness ~ this is the sweetest little girl ~ I don't know who is cuter ~ her or kitty! Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteOpal is adorable and so sweet! I think instead of ever "rounding up" which we normally would do, the balances should be left showing her contribution. and I too love the flipflops ;) Thanks Opal!

Sniff. Oh no, I'm not crying - it's smokey here and the pollen count is really high and something got in my eye. Must go hug cat army.
ReplyDeleteThat is so great! She looks so cute with the kitties....maybe she needs to adopt one of these kittens!
ReplyDeleteOpal is the bestest little girl in the whole wide world!
ReplyDeleteShe is such a precious, loving girl. Her parents are to be commended for helping her become so awesome!
ReplyDeleteI treasure every one of the kitties and the supporters of the IBKC.
Oh heck, now I wish she were up for grabs too! C'mon, the girls need a human big sister who loves them! :)
ReplyDeleteOh.....my......ga!!! What a way to start the weekend.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely. The hope of the future. Tons of love and thanks to Opal. Please tell her that one of the best kitties ever in our family was named Opal too.
ReplyDeletehow sweet! I think there should be a matching $1.05 fundraiser challenge. A lot of people (like me) are unemployed or otherwise financially not in a great position. People who maybe can't give $5, 10, 20 or more dollars may just be able to pull out $1.05. Enough $1.05s and you will reach 40 squillion in NO time!
ReplyDeleteOpal reminds me of Patrick over at the Space Paws blog. So wonderful to see and learn about such awe inspiring children. Thank you, Opal!
ReplyDeletesweet and heartwarming.
ReplyDeleteSuch a loving and sweet girl! Makes me proud to be female. She is well on her way to being a cat whisperer.....
ReplyDeleteSo cute! ^___^
ReplyDeleteoh wow. what a beautiful little girl, with such a lovely heart. All i could think of was lolcats "ur doing it right." I think her mama & papa need a poster of Opal & her $1.05 donation with the caption: "Parenting: ur doing it right." :)
ReplyDeleteSo very sweet!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of one of my favorite quotes floating around the internet:
“I once asked a four year old what the secret of life was. ‘Feed the kitties,’ she said, ‘Feed the kitties.’” ~ Ellis Felker
What a sweet, sweet little lady with such a lovely spirit (and sandals!).
ReplyDeletexoxo
Yeah...my kid is pretty awesome.
