Hanging 'Round the Watering Hole

The Furmans are obsessed with the bathroom. In fact it's nearly imposible to slip into the bathroom without a kitten entourage following closely behind. If you do manage to make it in alone, they're crying from the other side of the door.

They can easily spend the better part of the day playing in there. They'll wrestle on the edge of the tub between the shower curtain and liner. They'll knock bottles into the tub, and roll them around. They'll sit and catch drips from our leaky tub faucet.

The sink is the best. If you turn it on to a slow drizzle, everyone will gather round, taking drinks and take turns batting at the stream with their paws.

Oliver is captivated by the running water. After all the others have lost interest and move on, he'll keep playing.

And speaking of Oliver, yes, he found his family!

The kittens have an appointment for a round of vaccines this afternoon, and after we return, Oliver will be packing his suitcase and we'll say goodbye. I'll give the full report after he leaves, but you'll be happy to know he won't be an only kitten, and we've met his family before! Any guesses?

The rest of the gang will be leaving over the next couple of weekends, so our time is limited with the fabulous Furman Five!

They're all getting big, and they are ready to get started on their new lives.

As always, we'll miss them, of course. But it's time.

Hurray for Oliver! We hope he'll have many wonderful and loving years in his forever home. :-)

  3. That second picture is hilarious, they all seem so transfixed! I eagerly await the announcement of Allover's forever home.

  4. I have a Potty Putty, too, but he's not a big fan of the sink. Still, our best cuddle time is when I'm, *ahem* "taking care of business."

  5. Hmm, perhaps it's a cow kitty thing - as my Aerin also obsesses about the faucet when given the chance. Finally gave in and bought them a Drinkwell fountain.

  6. @G - I agree...they're all "WHERE does it GO?"

Glad Senor Panatlones Loco found a home!

  8. These pictures are beyond adorable, they almost make me weepy. And hurray for Oliver and his new family, they are very lucky peoples to be adopting such a wonderful furrbutt.

  9. Hehe... many kitties do seem to like water as long as they're not expected to be *in* it!

Glad they've all got homes now... sad to see them go, but there wouldn't be any room for humans or new itty bitties in your house if you kept them all!

  11. At first I was thinking that Oliver might be Miss Opal's new kitten, but now I'm thinking that he will be VeChing's (from the last litter) new little brother.

  12. Ve Ching's family was my first thought, too...

  13. Oliver looks almost exactly like my cat Trinket - that's uncanny! Trinket was deathly afraid of water, though.

  14. They are so grownup looking...It will be sad to not 'see' them everyday...but hopefully they will keep in touch!

  17. That second photo gave me a much needed laugh after a horrendous day. Thank you Laurie - and kitties! It is amazing how the silliness of kittens can put things into perspective.
I am going to miss these sweeties, but know they are all going to terrific homes.

  18. Graduation time for yet another group...always too soon to say goodbye, but three cheers to forever families.

I will be sad to see them go as they were the best, most amazing, most beautiful and adorable group ever....that is, until the next batch arrives.

Moral: all kittens are wonderful and special. That's why we love them so.

  19. Is it the women who won Tea Time with the Bean? Or your parents?

  20. Those first and second pictures are absolutely perfect!

As always, there's a little bit of bittersweet along with the happiness that these little furs are going to have their own permanent staff, I mean, families.

  21. The last to get a home is the first to go home... How proper... Bye Bye Ollie!! Have a great life!

  22. Clearly the Furmans are descended from an ancient and noble lineage of Felidae, the fishing cats--powerful swimmers and mighty hunters of fish, waterfowl, small cattle...

    Congratulations to their new families.

  23. Hi I follow this blog regularly for about 1 year now. Can not remember an alumnus named opal/? May I know who he/she is?

  24. If he goes to Ve Ching's family, they will mirror my kitty family exactly!: A super-playful cowcat boy (who also loves the bathroom sink) and a super-floofy, gorgeous tabby girl. The suspense is killing me!

  25. Anon:

During this year's fundraiser there was the most adorable little girl named Opal who wanted to donate to the kitties. She was going to donate one of her two dollars that comprised her net worth, as she was saving the other one to buy her father a coffee for Father's Day, 2011. (If by this point you don't have a lump in your throat...) But then she realized there were five kitties in the litter so she added a penny for each one and donated $1.05. In her honor, we kept "rounding up" to add the .05 she donated in addition to her dollar every time some one rounded up to an even number. When Laurie went over the top and reach her goal, the amount was $40,000.05. Go back and look at the post with Opal, it will renew your faith in humanity. She also has very cute kitty flip-flops.

  28. Much love for all the Furman Five, but Oliver is one of my five faves. mol

  29. Oh, Laurie, PLEASE don't make us wait any longer to find out where the exceptionally adorable Oliver is going, please!

  30. This probably isn't correct but I really wish Oliver would go to Pinky's family - they really need a lovely kitten like him.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks G, for telling Opal's story.

  32. My kitty loves the bathroom too! He loves to sit in the tub after I shower and watch the water drip down the shower curtain. And he loves the faucet too!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Throw a couple of ping pong balls in the bathtub for some real entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Love the faucet photos! My two have a drinkwell fountain but of course that isn't enough. They expect me to leave the door open so they can saunter in and I must leave the faucet running slightly so they can take a drink. I am told that after a shower, the ions in the air is what brings the kitties in. Wonder if that is true.

  35. I want a kitten entourage too!

  36. My friend's big white & orange boy cat loves to follow people to the bathroom. If you shut him out he pushes the door open because it usually doesn't close tightly. Sometimes he will jump onto the toilet seat as you are trying to sit down. I told him he's going to get peed on one day!

The same friend's bengal cat will meow until you turn the bathroom faucet on for her.
