Warning: This Post is About Poop
It's been a week since our little Dearborns moved in, and they're all doing great. They're all such friendly beings. They're happy and excited all the time, and love spending time with us humans. If you sit down in their space, you'll instantly get a lapful. Some will wrestle, some will perch on your knees, and Geraldine will climb up and nap on your shoulder.
Health wise, they started off a little rocky, but things have vastly improved. They all had a screaming case of diarrhea, unlike anything I've seen before. They were eating INSANE amounts of food, but everything just came rushing out the other end. Somehow, even through all of this, they managed to put on weight and now they're all up to a pound each. Thank you modern medicine.
Poops are firming up and looking good. This weekend we had puddles, and now it's more like toothpaste. I'm happy their systems are slowing down and their little bums are getting a bit of a break. I'm also happy to be scooping less. Folks, you wouldn't believe how much poop they have pooped. It's impressive to say the least.
Everyone's a little crusty, so I think it's time for a bath. It's something we all dread, but a necessary evil. They'll all feel so good when it's over.
Once that's all done, we've got to get these little monkeys trained. It's almost time for our annual fundraiser, and we've got to get them ready for the phone banks!!!!

The phone bank photos are my very favorite thing you do!
ReplyDeleteYour luck is unreal, Laurie. The cutest litter EVER, right in time for the fundraiser.
ReplyDeleteAww, glad they're doing well! And I'm sure they'll be amazing little fundraisers. Who can resist those faces?
ReplyDeleteYeah for phone banks!!! And I gotta say, Miss Pearla's pink nose of doom just gets cuter every picture I see.
ReplyDeleteCome on little guys, make some tootsie roll poos!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried pureed pumpkin? It works wonders.
ReplyDeleteFundraising time again already? Wow...
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see them working the phones!! :)
CanNOT wait for the phone bank photos! This group will be especially adorable, I'm thinking.
ReplyDeleteTheir look says "Poop? We're too cute to poop!"
ReplyDeleteaww, i bet they'll feel great after a nice bath and mani/pedi!!! kitty spa days are the best. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember being amazed at how much poop two kittens produced when I brought Riza and Mei home. I can't imagine how much these big litters must make! Good thing they're so darn cute.
ReplyDeleteWoo fundraiser time!! Woo solidifying poop! Just think about tootsie rolls, kittens! I wish I could just take this basket and hug you all at once!
ReplyDeletePoor tinies! Glad to hear they are on the mend.
ReplyDeleteWell this is what you have the isolation period for. Can you imagine poor Bean catching that and needing a bath to clean up?
ReplyDeleteThis is how you know you are in rescue - when posts like this seem normal. MOL Glad everyone is doing well....and getting cuter by the day. Mom loves that basket - it gets used for all the groups and seems to hold them in one spot for cute pics!!
ReplyDeleteGeez Louise Laurie! I'm so sorry that you had to scoop all that (messy) poop! But I know that it's worth it to be with these darling little babies.
ReplyDeleteAnd - YAY! Fundraiser time! And what a great group you have to man (kitten?) the phones - I'm sure they'll do a fabulous job!
Fundraiser with the DEARBORNS at the phones? One of the cutest litters ever? It will shatter all records!
ReplyDeleteI love little Phoebe, I would consider moving to Seattle just for her... *sigh*

I love the kittens-in-basket pictures best of all!
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe all five of the babies can fit in the basket so well -- they really are teensy, aren't they? And they will definitely be superior fundraisers -- who can resist those cute little faces?
ReplyDeleteBut yay for firming-up poops! Poor babies, screaming diarrhea is NO fun. And many thanks to you for the work you do taking care of them and nursing them back to health. You have a dedication to the babies that shows in how big and healthy they all grow up to be; I'm sure that's the best reward you could ask for. Thank you for all you do for these precious little creatures!
cutest little ones ever! Glad they are getting better
ReplyDeleteThe kittens are so lucky to have you, Laurie, and we're so lucky they have you. Your amazing photos help satisfy our kitten-lusting hearts.
ReplyDeleteI know that when bathing 5 kittens, pictures are the *last* thing on your mind, but I would definitely love to hear a description/see some photos of an IBKC bathtime. Little bedraggled kitties!
ReplyDeleteOh my -- "They all had a screaming case of diarrhea, unlike anything I've seen before." And yet, while in the throes of that, you didn't even utter a peep about all that poop, you're such a trooper!! (Note, I did NOT say pooper trooper... I wouldn't stoop to such a ridiculous pun...) Ahem.
ReplyDeleteA former student of mine, who works at a shelter told me "All kittens have diarrhea." When I brought my last boy home from the shelter he was nightmarish with the runs. After a series of meds from the vet, I just started giving him whole-fat organic vanilla Greek yogurt. Firmed him up in no time. Now the vet suggests it as a treatment, and my little dude gets very DEMANDING when I pop open my own carton of yogurt! Two years later and he remembers!
ReplyDeleteFortunately a large 'crew' to kitten the phones, with all those opurrators to assist, we will (once again) knock the socks off them dogs!! Looking foward to the challenges, even though some would break my bank!! ($20 per paw x 8...) Bring it on!!
ReplyDeletemy mommy hearts poop. more hers than mine tho. we think all the dearbornes are absolutely adorable. pearla is my favorite, cuz she has my nose.
ReplyDeleteI am fostering my first kitten litter (in the past it's been adults) and they are just the same size! Fortunately I have their mama as well. I have two boys, two girls and mom. The girls look just like little Phoebe! I've been following your site for years and it's really cool to have kitties the same size as the itty bitties!
ReplyDeleteI got them at 10 days old and have seen their eyes open, ears unfold, and teeth grow in. They've learned to crawl, walk, hop, and now pounce and run. What fun!
Aaaagh, the cuteness it burns...not really, it does make me smile tho.
ReplyDeleteGah! That amount of cuteness is off the charts! Sorry about all the poop; I'm so glad they are starting to feel better!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore this bunch! So glad to hear they're doing well and poop-business is getting better too.
ReplyDeleteI have three cats and the amount of poop they produce is huge, so I can imagine how it must be to scoop the poop of five kittehs.
... Oh god the urge to grab that basket and hug them all silly is unbearable ._.
Such cuteness....
ReplyDeleteSuch....((not-so itty bitty thud))
Even with all that output...though I REALLY could have done without the reference to toothpaste!!!
My poor kitty had such bad diarrhea when I took her in as a kitten. She had a habit of getting it on her little paws, so whenever I heard it in the middle of the night, I would jump out of bed with a wet towel to clean her off before she jumped in bed with me. Thankfully, after settling in some, and changing foods, she got much better.
ReplyDeletePoor little cuties! I hope the vet figured out why they were so sick. I'm glad they're starting to feel better!
ReplyDeleteAwww. They are adorable. Did they check the poo for parasites or anything? Hope they're healing well! They are all fabulous.
ReplyDelete@HeidiK - I have to call you out for being a sooper dooper pooper trooper stooper.
ReplyDeleteAnd I still believe that all kittens only poop rainbows.
