Waiting for the Call....

I survived one very crazy week of work, and now that all the floral madness is behind me, it's time for some kittens!   I put in the call yesterday afternoon,  but there were no youngin's in need of fostering. As soon as there are, we will get some!    Kittens are still rolling into the shelter, so the wait won't be too long.   There have been several litters in the last couple weeks, but they were all babies with their mamas, and as you all know, we only take in orphans.

Bean is getting restless.  I was so distracted with work, she didn't get all of her usual play time.   I promised her today that we would play a few rounds of "Hide and go Seek", which is one of her favorite games.

I need to do my best to keep her entertained until kittens arrive because when Bean is bored,  she is naughty and can get destructive.   She jumps up on the dining room table, or she scratches things she shouldn't, like the living room rug.

I hope the next post I post is all about a fresh litter of kittens.    Fingers crossed they arrive today.

Until then...  more Charlene pics.

  2. Hi! I am just curious why you prefer to have litters with no mamas? Nothing against fostering orphans at all, just curious!

  4. We find it hard to believe that Charlene would be naughty..... :)

  5. What a beautiful Charlene! Hope she gets lots of playtime. :)

  6. I'm afraid I'm with "Random Felines" -- look at that nose, those eyes, those whiskers. Clearly all indicators of a cat who can Do No Wrong. My own Lilliane shares many of those same qualities, and she....LILLI GET OFF THE COUNTER!!

  7. Ohh Bean you are so lovely! So what if you get in to a little trouble. Who could scold you? Hoping for new kittens soon.

  8. Tara - There are numerous reasons. Mostly, it's because we have Charlene. It could be stressful to a mama cat to have another female cat nearby. So, if we were to foster a mama and babies, we would have to keep them completely separate during their stay with us, which of course is less fun.

It works the way we do it now, and I would never want to upset things. I would hate to create a situation where Charlene felt uncomfortable or stressed in her own home, and I wouldn't want a mama cat to experience any stress either.

  9. I refuse to believe that Miss Charlene behaves like anything less than the stunning lady that she is. She really is one of the most beautiful cats I've ever seen.

  10. I love that you make time for and consider Charlene's feelings. She's not only beautiful, she's smart and needs stimulation.
BTW, I'm pretty sure she's sneering in that first pic?!?!?!

  11. How do you play hide and seek with a cat? Pictures please!

  12. Cilley - I hide behind something... door, chair, whatever, then call Charlene's name. When she gets close, I jump out, she pretends to be startled and runs off and hides, then I go hide again......

Sorry, no pictures of that. Or videos.

  13. With the exception of that recent unladylike picture of Miss Bean, she always looks so regal and wise. What I'd like to see is a picture of her having full-on crazy---that tail would be magnificent!

  14. Oh there you are looking stunning as usual Charlene. :)

Thanks for asking the question Tara - I wasw wondering the same thing.

I like your hide and seek game Laurie - must try it with one of miine who is a 3-legged chubbster who is far too mellow for his own good.

Despite having 2 scratch posts, my cats scratch the living room rug all the time - how do I stop it??!

  15. Surely that is not the face of a naughty destructive cat... We might need some visual proof...

  21. @Waheeda - try a scratcher that lays flat...I read that there are cats who prefer flat scratching surfaces.

O Charlene, I imagine you playing hide & seek and I get a HUGE smile!

  22. @Amy W - Geraldine Dearborn? Can you post a picture of her that shows her eyes? I'd love to see that.
