Gibson Kin

In early June, twelve tiny  kittens  in one big box were  surrendered to the shelter.

Our little Gibsons were in this mix.  They were the stronger of the set, and were able to feed from a bottle, so off they went to a foster home where they  were cared for by their foster mom, Diana.

The remaining kittens stayed in the shelter for observation.  They were smaller and sickly, and sadly,  three of them did not survive.   After a few days, the remaining four moved in with foster mom Dixie,  and she took charge of their care.

When the Gibsons were all eating on their own,  Diana brought them back to the shelter.  I returned from my trip, scooped them up, and brought them home.

Most likely twelve kittens didn't come from the same mom, but no one is exactly sure who are siblings, and who are not.   So, all are Gibsons, might not be Gibsons!  Perhaps they have the same father, so maybe they're step siblings.   We will never know for sure.

Dixie was kind enough to loan her babies to us for an afternoon so I could share them with you and so they could take a shift on the phones.

Before their shift begins, let's meet these kitties.

All the names are NASCAR references.  Not being a follower of this sport,  the references were all lost on me.   Maybe some of you all will get them though.

This delightful girl is Delana.

And here's her dilute sister, Danica.

And this is NOT our dear little Pheona, it's Kevin.

They look shockingly similar, don't they?
Here's a picture of Pheona, so you can compare the two.

Dixie's kittens will be ready for adoption in a few weeks, so if there are any interested parties, send me a note and I'll connect you.

Tune in tomorrow and see the Gibson Kin take a turn at the phones.

And just a little reminder,  we've got our awesome $5000 matching donation challenge running through  Midnight Sunday.   We've got $2000 in donations in since the start, but we still have a LONG way to go.

If you were thinking about making a donation during our FUNdraiser, now would be a really great time.   First of all, because we need you, and secondly, because your dollars will be doubled!   Your money will go twice as far and you'll feel twice as good!

I'll be blogging my little heart out all weekend long, so please stay close.  They'll be lots to see and read!   There are auctions ending, there are names to announce, you'll learn all about Petunia Louise and MUCH, MUCH MORE!

Thanks for staying tuned!

Delana, you have some peanut butter on your nose. May I kiss it off? And Danica, I've never seen a beautiful coat like that before. It's lovely!

  6. Delana has such crazy whiskers! They are utterly adorable! And Pheona and Kevin definitely look like twins.

  7. They are all gorgeous, and I am sure the Gibsons enjoyed the extra paws on deck to answer the phones!

  8. What sweeties! In Nascar world - Delana is married to Kevin Harvick driver of #29 car. Kasey Kahne from Pacific NW drives #5. The beautiful dilute tortie needs to have a different namesake - IMHO.

  9. What an interesting turn of events. We've never had this situation before (at least not that you've shared).

So did they all play together???

    1. No, they didn't mingle. I didn't want anyone passing any bugs to anyone else.

  10. Gosh the Gibson 'sibs' are all amazingly cute!

Will we see any video of them all playing - or would that have caused quarantine to restart?

  11. I knew there had to be a tortie in the litter! Turns out there our two. :) It looks like these kittens are being very well cared for. Thank you, Dixie.

  12. Laurie, I think you might have mis-typed when you wrote, "I'll be blogging my *little* heart out." If there's a bigger, kinder human heart than yours, I don't know where it resides. (Thanks for bringing such joy to all of your readers, and all that love to the kittens you foster.)

  13. Adorable, absolutely adorable!! And being a NASCAR fan too, I get the references - we needed a Tony though for Tony Stewart but ... Some tomcat was busy - hope the dad and the moms have been sneutered even though they clearly make precious babies.

  14. Bravo Zulu.
    I'm sure the kittens agree.

  15. Pretty sure Pheona and Kevin are from the same litter. Otherwise, that's just crazy coincidence. They're all adorable! And don't worry, the names are lost on me too.

  16. Maybe someone in the IBKC community could tweet the Nascar drivers and let them know they have namesakes. Adorable namesakes. I might actually watch Nascar if they had a kitten car.

    1. What a great idea! And I agree - I would definitely tune in to NASCAR if they had a kitten car. Kittens make everything better.

  17. They're all just adorable! I think Kevin and Pheona must be siblings. It's probably a good thing you don't have them both because we would constantly be confusing them!

  18. They are ALL adorable, but Danica just kills me - SO cute!!!

  19. Anyone else think Danica reminds them of little Twyla Pickett?

  20. Oh, goodness. Kittens and NASCAR in one place. I may just explode from joy.

  21. Ooo, little Danica has a big reputation to live up to! Danica Patrick drives NASCAR now, but she's more famous for being the ONLY woman to win an IndyCar series race, and the highest-placing woman in history in the Indy 500!

  22. You are doing such an awesome job with these little guys! They're definitely thriving with you. :)

A side note, the 5 I took home were the sickest of the 12, and the only ones not eating on their own. The ones remaining at the shelter were supposed to be the strongest. When we found out 3 died, both Dixie & I felt terrible that we didn't take them as well.

Very sad turn of events, but sometimes they just go downhill so quickly there isn't anything to be done. I'm glad that the 9 are doing well and thriving. :)
