We Have a Name!!

The first of our naming rights auctions has ended, and a surname has been selected!    Rebecca and Barry, Tacoma residents and supporters of the Humane Society, were the winners and they have chosen "Gibson"!

Here's the story behind the name.

The reasons behind our choice range from somewhat humorous to quite a bit more meaningful. First, my love for kitties is closely matched by my love for frozen yogurt. Hence, the chosen surname is a “shout out” to a local purveyor of frozen yogurt goodies in Tacoma’s Stadium District.

Second, my late grandfather was a talented musician who had an affinity for Gibson guitars. My enjoyment of your IBKC blog is similar to the joy I saw on his face as he played his Gibson guitar.

Finally, Gibson is the surname of an individual who has taught us so much about life both as individuals and as a married couple. We are forever grateful to have met him and, similarly, are grateful for your efforts on behalf of the Humane Society.

Thank you to the Rays for your generous winning bid.  And thank you too for the thoughtfulness that went into the naming of the Gibsons.   The kitties  will wear their name with great pride!

Three of our first-name naming rights auctions are live right now, and the remaining two will go live later today.  The first one starts at 10:00 AM Pacific Time, and the second at 2:00 PM.   Tabby Girl's auction ends at 10:00 this morning, so if you want to place a bid, please don't delay!

Now how about some pictures of cute kittens.  I mean, cute Gibsons!

    1. I love how much thought goes into the last name, too.

It makes the litter just that much more 'special' as their itty bitty selves help the HS.

  2. So Tiny Tabby is a Gibson Girl!

  5. Congratulations to Rebecca and Barry for the wonderful name for these kittens. The reasons behind the name Gibson are charming.
Now about these photos: Fabulous!! Fantastic! Glorious! These two darling Gibsons look wonderful with Laurie's gorgeous hand-made flowers. Colorful and cute. Think of every adjective possible to relay the meaning of wonderful and multiply by two. Splendiferous!!

  10. The third picture from the bottom would make an awesome Valentine's card!! *Kitty smooches*

Though if you paired it with the last picture, it looks more like "Yuck, tuna breath!" ;)

  11. I love the name "Gibson" and I love all the very good reasons it was chosen as a last name for these adorable kittens. Thank you, Rebecca and Barry!

  12. LOGOR (little orange guy on right) looks like he's considering taking a chomp out of the flowers..

  13. I am completely in awe of your beautiful photography and phenomenal skills as a kitty wrangler, Laurie! You must have unlimited patience to be able to coax these bouncy and sproingy kittens into sitting still while you capture these gorgeous photos. Kudos! My hat is off to you!

    1. Just so you know how utterly awesome Laurie's talent is... I betcha she made those flowers, too. Did you, Laurie?

      Yes, I made the flowers.

    3. They are incredible. I thought they were real until it occurred to me you were the author of "Making Paper Flowers"... so I took a closer look. You're a genius.

  14. Hello Gibsons!!! Little floofy orange boy with his innocent expression reminds me of my floofy orange big boy so much =^.^=

  15. Perfect name! Perfect photos! Wonderful all!

  16. Is the floofy orangey in these photos our "paws of fury" boy? If so, I'm thinking he should be named after a lightweight boxing champion. How about Hector Camacho whose nickname was "Macho Camacho?" Hector "Macho" Camacho Gibson... hmmmm.... sorry, it makes me laugh looking at these flower photos of him and saying that. Also, just throwing out ideas for the folks who win the bids. :p

  17. Mmmm, Gibson's fro yo is the best! And the kittens are the cutest. Perfect name!

  18. Such cute kitties, clearly puzzled by the gorgeous Laurie-made paper flowers. I've got your Making Paper Flowers book/kit, Laurie, but have yet to work up the nerve to try them -- and now your photos give me even more tummy butterflies at the thought of trying to produce anything as cute as what you can apparently turn out with one hand tied behind your back, in your sleep! :)

Anyway, I am especially taken by little Floofy Gibson's little pink tongue. Such an adorable little pink tongue! He's clearly not as bothered by the flowers as Non-Floofy, but then again, he's not as tall so he's not bumping his head on them. Today. I'm sure by tomorrow or the next day he will be -- the kitties do seem to grow like weeds under your splendiferous care, Laurie!

  19. I just want to snatch those two boys up! I once worked with a lady and we had two orange brothers with us there. Bandit was a floofy guy who would lay across my desk and Bodie was a short hair who would lay on my feet.

  20. I love the shorter-haired orange & white brother. From all of his photos he looks like a sassy little stinker. :)

  21. The name, and the presence of "giant" flowers, make me think of Henry Gibson of Laugh-In fame.

  22. Little Floofy Guy knows how to work a camera.

  23. Time to break out Laurie's flower making book. Inspired all over again!

  24. Little floofy guy is a major goofy kitty! That little yawn and tongue are so adorable!

  25. Oh, you knew I'd LOVE this name! In fact, our baby foster bunny is still nameless, and Gibson leads the list! Can he be an honorary IBKC babe? Gibson Gibson. I like it.
And we'll be enjoying Gibson's frogurt tomorrow night ~ yum!!!

  26. The 6th photo looks like floofy little orangey boy is telling his bigger bro what it means when he hears 'we have a name now!'

    The cuteness is too powerful!

  27. I named my lovey boy Gibson after the guitar (he's the "pillow" in my picture), so I wholeheartedly approve and adore the name.

Standing ovation for Rebecca, Barry, and Laurie (for the beautiful flowers)
