Our 150th Kitten Now Has a Name!
I'm a tad too misty to write anything, so I'm just going to copy and paste April's sweet email.
I've been pondering names for days. I thought I might like to go with Charles, after my grandfather who recently passed away. With the addition of the surname Gibson, though, I wasn't sure - not that Charlie Gibson is a bad namesake, mind you - just a little too obvious. :)
As the past few days played out, with the addition of Gibson, and Rutherford, Sherman, Cedric, and Pheona taking their names, and the stars lining up for me to have the honor of naming such a special kitten - #150! Holy cow! - the pressure was on.
Clearly a name of distinction was in order, and Charles certainly fit that bill. But he needed something more. I liked the idea of adding an "L" name - and then it came to me. What better way to name this little guy than to honor the woman behind it all - and so, Laurent, in homage to you, Laurie, for all you have done for so many - for the kittens you foster, the shelter you so wholeheartedly support, and those of us fortunate enough to read the blog.
Hope he likes it!
April
He does! Charles Laurent Gibson likes it, and so do I. Actually, we love it.
Thank you, April. Thank you.

It was my absolute pleasure. :)
ReplyDeleteCondolences on the passing of your grandfather . He must have been special to have a generous granddaughter like you!
DeleteThe name you chose is perfect.
Thank you. In a weird coincidence - my own kitty's name is Chuck, though she had her name before she came to live with me :)
DeleteOh, April. Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.

Such a wonderful name, April!
ReplyDeleteA lovely and fitting tribute. Well done, April!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful, April! Congratulations and thank YOU.
ReplyDeleteApril, I don't know how you managed to successfully follow up on the brilliant name picks for this year IKBC's fundraising litter but you did it, and IN SPADES!! Not only does "Laurent" honor Laurie for all the work she does, but it is a perfect fit for this fuzzy orangie. He absolutely *looks* like a Laurent! You are a genius.
ReplyDelete"Charles Laurent Gibson" is even better. He can be "Charlie" when he's feeling casual and he can be "Charles Laurent" for social occasions and job interviews. If he decides to become a model or actor, of course, he may decide upon "C. Laurent Gibson" as a stage name (a la "C. Thomas Howell").
DeleteOh, absolutely perfect. A distinguished name for a handsome gent and an incredible, incredible lady behind it all. :)
ReplyDeleteThat picture is SO precious. And the name fits him so very well.
ReplyDeleteSimply perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove it! With the nickname Laurie, perhaps, like the charmer in Little Women...
ReplyDeleteWhat a purrfect name for this little kitty boy!
ReplyDeleteI love the meaning and thought behind his name - celebrating two very, very special people!
April - you rock!
And you were worried?? That's a fabulous combination of names! It made me think of Laurie from "Little Women", too. Maybe they should rename the book "Itty Bitty Women". Laurie could contribute amazing photos of kittens decked out as the characters and build tiny Victorian rooms for them --- in all of her spare time, of course!
ReplyDeleteSaying hello from San Franfuncisco to adorable Signore Charles!
ReplyDeletePerfect name for kitten #150. Well done AprilF!
ReplyDeleteAlso well done Laurie, you showcase these kittens brilliantly.
Perfect choice April! A fitting tribute to your Grandfather, and to Laurie, who is loved and admired by so many :)
ReplyDeleteApril - I got misty reading that note. Well done, well done.
ReplyDeletePurrfect. Simply Purrfect.
ReplyDeleteAnd I forgot to note: That is one cutie puss! Literally.......that kitten has the cutest little kitten nose ever.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally confused by the comments. April, can you clarify his name? I thought it was Laurent Gibson, but others seem to think its Charles Laurent Gibson and Laurent Charles Gibson.
ReplyDeleteOh, never mind. I see Laurie called him by his full name at the end of the post.
DeleteHow utterly perfect!! April, what a fantastic job of naming this itty bitty baby. You've captured all that's fine and shining about the IBKC (thank you!!) and honored your grandfather in such a loving way ... Wow!! Bless your heart, and may your grandfather's memory be a blessing to you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovel name for a lovely kitten - Charles looks pleased as punch with his new name!
ReplyDeleteAh, April, that's a wonderful and touching choice -- your grandfather AND Laurie! I love homages. Pretty kitty, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful name and such a touching story!!
ReplyDeletesuch a fitting name and tribute to you. thank you for all you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful name for the cute little kitten <3
ReplyDeleteThat's a big name for such a little guy, but I'm sure he'll grow into it just fine. What a cutie patootie!
ReplyDeleteA perfect name for a perfect kitten! Even more so by honouring Laurie for her 150th foster kitten!
ReplyDeleteApril, my condolences on the passing of your grandfather. Something tells me he would have appreciated the tribute.
Fabulous name! Now I'm crying drinking my tea this morning!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how sweet. That is a perfect name!
ReplyDeleteThat is so lovely, that you named this precious baby after two such special people. Good job! And little C. Laurent Gibson is going to grow up to be a very dignified cat, I can tell already, with that dignified name! :)
ReplyDeleteGeez, now I'm a might misty too! A perfect name!
