The Prince Finds His Palace
As kittens leave the nest, the ones that remain, often show a shift in personality. Once the more dominant ones are gone, the quieter ones become braver, louder, and often start to shine brighter. It's a beautiful transformation to witness.
The other Gibsons all left on Saturday, so we had several days alone with little Charles Laurent. These last few days with him were splendid. He was dear before, but in this time, he managed to become even dearer. This little boy who sat back and watched the rest, stepped forward. He became very vocal, confident, friendlier, sweeter and even snugglier.
I always thought Charles was a special one before, but he blossomed quickly into an even more spectacular kitten. I was hoping an equally spectacular family would find their way to us.
Well, they did.
I received an email with a subject line that read "Charles Charms". I was excited to open it up, and read its contents.
In this message, Aimee described in great detail the kind of home they could offer a kitten, and it was the absolute perfect scenario for our dear Charles. Honestly, I couldn't dream up a more perfect place for him.
Both Aimee and Erik are professors and their teaching schedules are nearly opposite, so there's almost aways someone home. They live a quiet life, with lots of time to devote to kitties, and lots of love to give. They have a handsome, friendly, year-old tabby boy. He's a recent adoptee from our Humane Society and was in need of a kitty friend. Preferably, a orange stripy boy named Charles.
I usually don't put collars and gold medals on our kittens until I know for sure they have homes. I had such a good feeling after reading their letter of introduction, I went ahead and suited up Charles before Aimee and Erik arrived for their meet-and-greet.
When they came over last night, sweet Charles was in curled in a ball, sound asleep, atop a pillow on the center of couch. When they said hello, Charles unfurled, rolled over, stretched his paws and toes and greeted Aimee and Erik. There was lots of oohing and aahing and commenting on the cuteness of his ear tufts and pinkness of his nose.
Charles charmed, adoption papers were completed, and off the prince went to his new castle.
I'm so happy for the boy and his new family. It is the perfect palace for our prince.
Aimee and Erik, you were definitely worth the wait! Thank you so much for adopting this little kitten gem.

What a wonderful, heartwarming story for your 150th kitty!
ReplyDeleteHurray, hurray for sweet Charles. Aimee and Erik and their tabby boy sound just right for little Charles. His nose and tufts are splendid. I don't think he is too thrilled with the crown though, but never mind Charles, you are a royal winner!!! Have fun in your forever home. And hurray for Laurie who cherishes these itty bitties and nurtures them to become such lovable furbabies!!!
ReplyDeleteHourra pour le prince petite! What wonderful news, it really is amazing how just the right people and circumstances seem to fall into place for the itty bitties. Best wishes to Charles Laurent, and his new family.
ReplyDeleteI adore happily-ever-afters. Here's to Charles and Aimee and Erik and Tabby Boy, may your home be as happy as our became when we adopted Lionel (now Yoda) from Sue 4 years ago.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news! I'm thrilled for Charles, Aimee, Erik, and their tabby boy!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so happy!
ReplyDeleteI've been following the blog for a few months now and I just have to THANK YOU for telling these wonderful stories. I adopted a sweet little kitten a few years ago from a small foster program in my area (the story is a wonderful one - love at first sight!) and, at that time, offered to keep in touch because the foster mom said she hated sending her kittens into the big scary world and never hearing about them again. (I'm also a fundraiser in my career and know the power of a good testimonial story during those fundraising drives!) Unfortunately, after many attempts to contact her and the agency directly, including sending a follow up letter and email with photos of my baby in her new home, I never got a response, much less a "thank you for staying in touch."
Your follow through and continued story telling demonstrates genuine compassion in every post. I only wish I lived in your area so I could do more to help or that there was a place locally who was as warm and welcoming as you are. Thank you for giving me a place to love on kittens from afar and for sharing their stories! The world is a better place because of people like you.
Not sure what about sweet little Charles' story compelled me to finally post, but something touched me about him. Maybe because my aforementioned baby is a Charlie - Charlotte but she's a "tomboy" so Charlie fits so much better - so there was a kinship of sorts.
Thanks again!
Sounds exactly the life a prince deserves! Congratulations to Charles' new family.
ReplyDeleteAw, it sounds like it was well worth the wait! I was very tempted to snap Charles up, but I'm not sure our two grumpy old boys would have appreciated having a new kid around. I'm so glad that he ended up with Aimee, Erik, and the year old tabby who needs a friend!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! Thank you Aimee and Erik! May you, Charles, and Charles' new brother have long and splendid lives together!
ReplyDeleteAwww this post had me in tears! Happy forever home Charles! I hope we get pictures of him growing up. He's soooo cute!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful for Charles! I fell in love with his sweet face the first time I saw his photo -- he just has remarkably good looks for a kitten, and clearly the character and personality to match. I know he's going to be very, very happy in his new home! And I do hope Aimee and Erik send photos of Charles with his new brother; there's nothing sweeter than a baby Itty Bitty unless it's a grown-up former Itty Bitty!
ReplyDeleteI am *thrilled!*
ReplyDeleteFélicitations Amie,Erik et Charles Laurent! Many years of happiness for your new family!
ReplyDeletethis post got me emotional - how lovely!!! i LOVE the tufts of hair coming out of his ears! too cute!
ReplyDeleteSo very, very perfect! I am crying with happy tears. Love to the prince and his wonderful subjects!
ReplyDeleteSolo kitties can lead wonderful lives ( says the mum of a 16 YO ninja princess). I am so happy Charles found his people. He is a handsome and precious boy and I wish him and his mom and dad a world of happiness. Kittens are love!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely opportunity for Charles to show off! And even better...he will have a housemate and doting parents!
ReplyDeleteYeah!
ReplyDeleteI'm not usually overly emotional about the kitties (they make me smile a lot), but for some reason, this post just made me well-up.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, good work!
I have "tuned in" to the IBKC so many times today, hoping for a happily ever after for Charles. Blessings on him and his family.

He is such a beautiful boy! I especially love the white eyeliner he has around his big, beautiful eyes. Yay, Charles!
ReplyDeleteSo happy Charles Laurent has a wonderful furever home and friendly tabby brother!
ReplyDeleteSo happy that he has found his new home. :)
ReplyDeleteOooh, what a beautiful, fairy-tale ending! And I hope Prince Charles got to keep the tiara! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Prince Charles new adventures with us. I do hope Amiee and Erik will share with us how The Prince is doing. The tiara/crown was a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI seem to always want to have a little cry when they all leave...but knowing they have wonderful homes to go to makes me smile and keeps the tears away..
ReplyDeleteAnother great kitty family and another great job getting them ready... :)
Sweet sweet baby!
ReplyDeleteWhoopee!! Now Charles knows it's okay to speak up and be a bit assertive, AND he'll have a playmate!! I just love happy endings. :)
