Meet Their Mama

We usually don't meet the mothers of our foster kittens, but this time we did.

Please say hello to Ruth.

DSC_0019

She's gentle, sweet and almost a baby herself and looks only six months old.  She's a tiny thing.

She was in a foster home with her kittens and this dear little thing had a hard time making enough milk to feed everyone.  The whole family came back to the shelter, all a little too thin, and the vet staff decided that in the best interest of both mom and babes, it was time to pull the kittens off of Ruth.

I saw the little family in the foster room on Wednesday when I brought the Petries in for surgery.  Carrie and Allea told me the family would soon be separated soon, Ruth would be fixed and then made available for adoption.  Even though they're two months old, the tiny kittens needed more time in foster care, so I volunteered for the job.

When you meet these cuties, you'll understand why I volunteered to take them in.

Oh my.

Ruth's a lovely little lady and I am hoping she'll  find a really wonderful home.   Right now, she's at the Humane Society,  but there's a chance she could be moved to one of the satellite adoption locations, like PetSmart or Petco,  in the near future.    If you might be interested in meeting Ruth, you can contact the shelter and give them her identification number, A464480.  They'll be able to let you know where she's residing.  If you are the lucky one who adopts her, please be sure to let us know!

Tomorrow I'll begin introducing her babies.

OH, boy!  You're in for a real surprise.  Never in a million years would I guess these could be hers.  But they are, and they're fabulous.

UPDATE:  Ruth is at the Humane Society for Tacoma / Pierce County in lobby cage # 15!
Thanks for that info,  Frances.

  1. oh poor Ruth. As much as I love the kittens, I am truly smitten with her. Too bad I am not local. She would have a home with me!! She looks like my Tyger boy's long lost sister.... Good Luck Ruth!! And know that your babies are safe.

  3. That poor little thing. She is only a baby herself. It is amazing that they can be moms and take on so much at such a tender age. I wish her all the luck in the world for a loving home to come her way. Deb

  5. Oh I love seeing the bigger cats too. She is beautiful. Thank you for featuring her. I would love to see older cats in the mix. Good luck Ruth!

  6. My word...she is a beauty, and so young. I hope there is a forever home very soon for you Ruth :)

  7. She's just lovely! Her coloring is different, but she reminds me of my Emily, who was also a mama at much too young an age; her kittens had all just been adopted when I met her and she informed me that I was her new human. Of course poor Ruth wasn't quite able to take care of her babies -- she's still practically a bay herself!

I'm so glad this beautiful girl won't be consigned to the hard life of a stray, unfixed kitty, but will instead be able to enjoy the pampered life of a much-loved adopted kitty! I know you'll end up in a wonderful home, Ruth -- a beauty like you, I can't imagine otherwise!

  10. My mother's cat was in the same situation as Ruth, and even looks like her! She's grown up to be a lovely cat and a good companion for Mom. Here's hoping Ruth meets her forever family soo. I can't wait to meet her kids!

  12. Oh, sweet Ruth... been through so much for such a little bit. I'm sure she's got a great forever home out there just waiting to find her.

I hope she doesn't miss the babies too much. It needed to happen and they've lucked out going to Charlene And Laurie's Finishing Academy For Exceptional Felines, but it's got to be difficult to explain all that to her!

  13. What a sweet sweet face. So sad she has to have her babies taken from her, but it sounds like it's for the best. If I were local, I'd take Ruth in a heartbeat. I bet it won't be long before someone falls in love with her!

  21. Poor Ruth. But don't worry little one, life will only get better. I hope that soon you will find a new home and get the loving family you deserve. I share the wishes of the others about getting updates. It just tugs at my heart at what happened to her. Was she a stray or did she have a family that dumped her? In any case I wish her well and that I knew someone people in your area looking for a sweetie kitty.

  30. It was clear Ruth was REALLY done being a mom and ready to move on. When I packed the kittens in the carrier, she seemed relieved more than anything.

  31. Oh poor Ruth, she still looks a baby herself. I do hope she finds a family, I'll put out a call on personal and business Facebook pages.

  32. I look at my six month old kitten Sabrina and can't imagine her having babies herself!! Sweet Ruth, I'm glad you and your bitties are safe and will have good homes!

  33. Ruth looks just like my Hunca Munca! What a pretty brown tabby face-I am always a sucker for that sweet pink nose lined in black, and all the gorgeous tabby markings. She's really practically a kitten herself! I hope she finds a wonderful forever home.

  34. In my head, I said "Oh, sweet, sweet, Baby Ruthie". Then I laughed outloud at myself. She is just a baby herself. After such a big job in such a short life, she deserves to spoiled from here on out.

  35. Sweet little Ruth was ready to be done with the mom stuff a while ago. The family spent some time in the vet area at the shelter so they could be monitored, and although she would do her best, she was plumb tuckered out.

Giving her some space and time to regain her own kittenhood was the best gift.

  36. Sweet teen mom Ruth! She tried so hard to provide for her babies - but she is not much older than they!

Please let us know when she's adopted I just know it will be soon. I wish I could give her a home.

I swear my next kitty will be a young mom who had kittens while a kitten herself!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Heh. You KNOW I just had to go onto the Shelter's website to see Ruth's profile (and there is another adoreable picture of her there), And then I had to look at the rest of the kittehs looking for homes. Did you know one is named Laurie and another Butterbean?
May they ALL find homes soon!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Whoops. Correcting myself - I misread - Butterbean refers to the Butterbean Quarentine, where some kittehs are housed.

But there is a kitteh named Laurie! A tortie-tab kitten.

  39. How is that young a mama even possible? If she's six months now, and the babies are two months, then she gave birth at four months. Subtract another two for gestation? Pregnant at two months? Wow.

  40. The Humane Society guesstimated her age at 1 year, 2 months.
