Their plan was to eventually add a kitten to their family, and they were just waiting for the timing to feel right, Dose to grow up a little bit, and for that perfect kitten to come along.
During this time, we kept our eyes open for a good kitten match for this family. Oliver Furman was a contender, but the timing wasn't quite right.
After Murray, our Greyhound friend, came for a visit last month and we saw how smitten Clive Loudermilk was with this pup, I sent Elise a message to let her know we had a dog-loving kitten in our current litter. She talked about it with Michael, they looked at the pictures of Clive, then all three came over for a meet-and-greet with the Loudermilks.
Dose has met several cats in his day, some friendly, some not. The memories of the non-friendlys and the quantity of kittens in the room made Dose a little bit nervous, so at first, he hid behind mom. The kittens were comfortable and curious and most came close. I think Ralphie was the only one who hung back - not out of fear, he was just happy atop his perch and under the lamplight.
As the evening progressed, Dose became more at ease and more playful. If he got startled and hid again, he could easily be coaxed out with a few words and a freeze-dried chicken treat.
We bounced a tennis ball with Dosey and Clive joined in on the game. During this time, little Cyrus was close by, and snuggling in the laps of Michael and Elise. Graham, who was curious at first, joined Ralphie on the perch.
We had a nice visit, then the three left and discussed this big decision.
A couple of days later, I checked in with Elise to see if they had made up their minds yet. Much to my surprise, they decided they wanted to adopt CYRUS. That whole time we were playing ball with Dosey and Clive, Cyrus was busy stealing both of their hearts! Sneaky little kitten.
I got a message from Elise, and things are going really well for Cyrus in his new home. The whole family is happy with their choice!
Thank you so much for adopting our dear boy! I am so glad your perfect kitten came along!
Nice going Cyrus!
ReplyDeleteyou little lovebug!
So happy for Cyrus, and hoping that his new family will share a few kitten-dog snuggling pictures when they happen!
ReplyDeleteWow! That was a twist I wasn't expecting! But sounds like wise Cyrus knew this family was the one for him! May they all live and love happily ever after!
ReplyDeleteSneaky Cyrus! I hope Clive found a home with a dog to play with.
ReplyDeleteI love happy endings
ReplyDeleteYay for Cyrus and Dose! Now Cyrus, don't be chewing on the whiskers of your new doggy-brother!
ReplyDeleteSuch a surprise ending. I love the individual tales of them finding their furever homes but I want to hear all of them right now!!! (Patience is not my strong suit...) Thanks for Cyrus' story. Hope Clive gets a dog of his own. If he wants one, of course...
ReplyDeleteCyrus is a sneaky little heart-stealer, but good for him! He wanted that family and to be best friends with sweet Dose! Wishing them all well, forever and ever!!!
ReplyDeleteCyrus is such a good natured little fellow that I've no doubt he's as happy as can be with his new family. And who couldn't love him back? No one. He's a darling boy!
ReplyDeleteGood for Cyrus sneaking in to out-manuveaur his bro! And good for Dose to overcome his fear of cats. A Merry Christmas in that household.
ReplyDeleteGray tabbies are expert heart-thieves. Congrats to Cyrus and his new family!
ReplyDeleteMe and my mom-person LOVE happy endings :)
ReplyDeleteWay to go Cyprus !
Sweet Cyrus and his lucky mixed-species family!
ReplyDeleteDose is lucky he didn't have to deal with the 5- snd 6-pack litters to help find his new fur-bro!
I just LOVE LOVE LOVE little Cyrus, I have a soft spot for grey tabby boys like my own little man, Commander :). I am so glad that Cyrus found a forever home and a big canine brother just in time for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteWell, let's see if Cyrus will try to chew off Dose's whiskers!!

Sneaky Cyrus, stealing Clive's furever home from him! ;D I'm glad things are working out.
ReplyDeleteThat's kittens for ya! You think you've got it all sorted out and they have other plans!!
ReplyDeleteReally, Cyrus, filching your brother's family?!
ReplyDeleteStill, kitties have a knack for working out the best fit - despite our plans. Congrats to all the boys and their families. May you have many wonderful years together.
A very well-told tale - keeping up the suspense, with little hints hidden...former English teachers should be proud...
ReplyDeleteEvery kitten needs a great big dog of his own to boss around! You go, Cyrus -- I know you and Dose are going to have a wonderful time together. (I just LOVE the image of a big dog hiding behind his mom in fear of kittens!)
ReplyDeleteYay, Cyrus!
