I stepped out yesterday with Wylla to pay a visit to Tinkertopia, an exciting new shop/ creative space that just opened up in downtown Tacoma. According to their website, Tinkertopia is "a destination for teachers, students, artists, crafters, inventors, makers, hackers, and tinkerers (of any age) in search of unusual materials for any creative venture". Now, it's also a destination for cats in search of cat toys.
It's filled to the brim with bins of wonderful oddities, overstock, scraps, seconds, remnants and randomness for your crafting and art-making needs. Many of these items were discarded by local industries and could have easily landed in the landfill, but instead, they found a home at Tinkertopia, and now with some vision, creativity, and a glue gun, they can be given a new life.
They sell most of these bits "by the bag", and at a very reasonable price, so we grabbed a sack and started filling it with objects Wylla thought might be fun to chase and catch. We were quite successful - within minutes our bag was filled with awesome stuff.
When we returned home, Wylla was excited to get into the bag, and fish out her new treasures.
We found some GOOD stuff at Tinkertopia.
If Wylla had thumbs, she would give Tinkertopia two thumbs-up.
Thank-you for sharing! I had a very good hearty laugh when I saw Wylla's eyes when she started playing with her new treasures. How cute is that!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I have to know... is her name pronounced "Why-la" or "Will-a"? I'm sure you've already addressed this question, but I must have missed it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhy-la.
DeleteThat's how I always pronounced it in my head, but it's good to know for sure! :)
Deleteomg delicate wee Wylla in her harness-- CUTE ATTACK!!
ReplyDeleteJust don't let Wylla have your credit card! I love the idea of her going shopping and being all excited about her purrrrrchases! She's adorable! (And she's picked up the Beanie Boss-Eyes!)
ReplyDeleteHa ha! It looks like Miss Wylla had a blast at Tinkertopia! What a fun place-love their fun, colorful chalkboard. Its so cool how she's so portable! love seeing her out and about on adventures with you.
ReplyDeleteWylla, you sure are a cute little thing.:)
ReplyDeleteZowie, I love Wylla
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool place! I thought maybe Wylla was going to abandon the toys and go for the shopping bag in the end. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love that photo with her huge eyes and her new toy. OM NOM NOM!
ReplyDeleteThe last three photos could be used to illustrate the true meaning of
ReplyDeleteom nom nom
OK, I've been putting off going to Tinkertopia until I have hours to spend. Now I *must* make the time. Heeee!!!
ReplyDeleteHow very creative! I'm glad she enjoyed the trip out and the toys..
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to LOVE the "Stepping out" series with Wylla. :-) -darin
ReplyDeleteOoooh! I agree! I hope there will be many more Steppin' Out With Wylla Stout blogs! Another book idea :)
DeleteNot only is Tinkertopia a brilliant idea (and one I wish they'd organize in this area), but Wylla's enjoyment of attending and then pure crazy kitten joy at her new toys are hilarious! Is she willing to share any of her new goodies with Charlene?
ReplyDeleteWylla's eyes look positively loony while playing with her new toys!!
ReplyDeleteThey are quite Audreyesque.
DeleteLOL! I hadn't even made the connection but they are rather like her sister's crazy eyes!
DeleteWell Wee Wylla is quite the girl about town these days! I love the silly look on her face when she is playing.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the first picture, I chuckled at how she usually looks like she's just been goosed! Then I saw the last couple and laughed out loud. Tinkertopia does sound like a wonderful place, and how nice that they welcome kitten customers too.
ReplyDeleteWylla is JUST SO CUTE! Kills me every time you post a picture of that little fluffer. I love that you took her to Tinkertopia! We have a similar place in Eugene Mecca: http://www.materials-exchange.org .. it's a little overwhelming for my non-crafty self, but the idea of getting cat toys there is a great reason to go in w/o having to be crafty. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a series of posts. I see Miss Charlene Buttebean as the "domestic queen" and Miss Wylla as the "girl around town".
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh... Those red and blue things she's chewing on? They're caps for suction canisters, like we use in the hospital where I work. Trust me, if you don't get them clean from Tinkertopia, you do NOT want to touch those things, lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific store = I hope the idea spreads.
ReplyDeleteWylla is so adorable- those last few photos have me laughing even in the midst of a rough week. Thanks, Wylla!
love it!
