Last week, we loaded up the Subaru and took Wylla on her biggest adventure yet - we went to California! It was a 12 hour drive to our destination, and she did remarkably well. She got a little squirmy at the end, but we were even squirmier at that point. Even with many breaks for stretching legs and snacking, 12 hours is a long way to go in one day for felines and humans too.
We met up with Craig's parents and spent a few days at his Grandmother's home. She passed away this summer, and the family is in the process of sorting through her things, and deciding what to do with the house, which was built by her husband.
The house is a long, California ranch-style with lots of rooms. Wylla explored every square inch of it, finding cobwebs in the corners, and smelling every smell. There were boxes to examine, and lots of groovy furniture to climb on and under. You could tell she felt very at ease in Grandma Sally's home, and seemed to really enjoy her time there. I wish Sally could have met her. Sally was a lover of all critters, and a great writer and storyteller. I know she would have loved meeting Wylla and telling the tale of her visit.
Tomorrow I'll share part two of our visit to Yuba City and the rest of the week, more of our California adventure. So, please stay tuned!
PS I just updated the IBKC shop with lots of sparkle balls! Need a holiday gift for your kitties? Please stop by! We also have magnets, cards, and posters for the kitty lovers in your life!
She's such a beauty. I'm sure Grandma Sally'd have loved to meet Wee Wylla!
ReplyDeleteDoes Charlene get jealous of Wylla's adventures? Or is she just glad that she doesn't have to travel? I hope she has a good time with her babysitter.
ReplyDeleteCharlene adores her babysitter and doubt she is jealous of Wylla's adventures. I think she enjoys the quiet house.
DeleteI see Wylla has passed her Advanced Tail Placement test! Beanie must be so proud of her!
ReplyDeleteWylla looks completely natural in that environment. She's a classic beauty. Also, the chair that she's sitting in looks similar to a chair my Granny had that now sits in my parent's living room.
ReplyDeleteThat kit-kat is gorgeous. Just gorgeous.
DeleteWhile we're at it on the furnishings, my mother-in-law has a floral needlepoint piece that looks rather like the artwork in pic #3.
I think Wylla needs to have the green chair since Charlene has her red/pink one.
ReplyDeleteThat as my first thought as well. And she looks SO good on that chair, too!
DeleteWylla has beautiful posture. And she is perfecting the elegant wrap-around-tail look! Very grown up.
ReplyDeleteI was in Yuba City for Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteWylla's just so beautiful, but she also makes me laugh because she's so cute. I mean, the first and last pictures, and the one where she's on the sink -- I'm laughing and I'm not even sure why! I think it's because it's so amazing that any little one could be so cute. You are a button, dear Wylla.
ReplyDeleteOh I love Grandma houses & Grandma things. <3
ReplyDeleteWylla fits right in with everything there. I think she wants the chair.
She looks so matching on the gold items, and the pink stuff goes with her cute little nose!
ReplyDeleteI love the look on Wylla's face in the bathroom picture! I imagine her saying, "Who is that beautiful cat over there?"
ReplyDeleteShe looks all grown up in these pictures! Well, that happened overnight, didn't it? She is still as cute as ever, but so mature! I <3 Wylla Francis Stout!
ReplyDelete"This place doesn't smell nearly enough like me yet..."
ReplyDeleteWylla sure does seem to know how & where to pose for her photos. You and Charlene have taught her well!
ReplyDeleteThat had to be heaven for confident Wylla--all those new things to see and smell! Jenna would agree with the Bean about staying home ;)
ReplyDeleteWylla poses so gracefully :) She is really becoming a beautiful cat!
