It's pretty magical to have kittens again. I had forgotten how precious their neediness is. And how absurd their slow-motion wrestling matches are.
I had been thinking for months that Wylla is tiny, but she's not. Kittens are tiny, Wylla is medium.
My, they are clumsy, and once they've toppled, it can take minutes for a kitten to get back on its feet. Like furry beetles on their backs, with legs churning wildly, they wriggle until FINALLY they are back up again, only to collapse in exhaustion moments later.
Their itty-bitty cries sound like distant seagulls.
Nothing in the whole world matters when they rest in your hands.
This little pair of girls, Effie Brisker and Hazel Swift, just moved in with us on Saturday afternoon. They are sisters, but most likely have different daddies, so I thought they should have different surnames. It looks like Effie is a lilac point. Hazel is gray, but she has a few flecks of color too, and her toes are kind of peachy, so she may be a dilute tortie. We'll just to have see how she develops.
They're around 3 to 3.5 weeks old, and weigh 12 oz each. They aren't eating solids yet, so they must be fed by bottle or syringe. They're eager eaters, and their bellies are plump. These girls are tiny, delightful beings.
I know you're anxious to meet them, so here they are!!!
Welcome, dear Effie and Hazel! We're so happy you're here!
I hope I'm the first *SQUEEEEEEEE*!

ReplyDeleteWow is right! And just look at them!!! You'd think Laurie'd start us off a little slowly -- given how long it has been -- but no! These wee gals are criminally precious -- and Laurie's photos are so beautiful!!

ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how Wylla interacts with the wee ones!!

ReplyDeleteSo precious! Hello, itty bitties!
ReplyDeleteI have bottle raised two kittens, and there is nothing that made me more in love with cats then that experience. The hungry mouths, tiny squacks and the perfectly smooth, shiny jelly bean toes. Oh man.. Love. Each of mine was only a week old, but it was amazing to watch them grow. Even though they were the MOST needful of creatures I've ever encountered, and not afraid to ask for more.
ReplyDeletei was so excited when i heard your teaser on Instagram. they are more adorable than i could have imagined! how wonderful to have babies in the house again!
ReplyDeleteSo much SQUEEEEEEE! <3 them and y'all too for being the bestest fosters EVAR!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're back to fostering kittens and you're helping some bottle babies too. The people at 50Kittens just weaned a litter just now. Your kittens are adorable! I can't wait to watch them grow up and find furever homes. I wonder how Wylia will react to them. She already knows something is going on in her house.
ReplyDeleteThey are adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteThey're in Heaven -- and so are we! Kisses for them and, of course, your permanent pair.
ReplyDeleteLet the games begin! OMG Hazel and Effie!
ReplyDeleteOh My Goodness! It's been a long time, but what a couple of cuties. I swear they are the best I've seen in quite some time. Happily looking forward to the updates on these adorable wee ones.

ReplyDeleteAdorable!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with these two super itty bitties! Effie and Hazel are adorable. Their sqeaks nearly sent me over the edge yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThanks also for the visual of their beetle-like characteristics. Laurie, you have a way with words as well! :)
Squeeeeeee!
ReplyDeleteSQUEEEEE! I'm so overjoyed for you, that you have kittens in your house again!!! Those are two incredibly lucky girls, and I hope that Bean and Wylla welcome them with open paws and lots of kisses!
ReplyDeleteLittle baby girls, you are THE MOST PRECIOUS. You could not be more perfect for the re-inauguration of the IBKC. Hugs and kissies to you, Effie and Hazel! <3
ReplyDeleteKittens! So glad to see more cute faces. They are adorable. It will be so interesting to see what Wylla makes of kittens, having been one herself not long ago. I heard their little squeaks yesterday and have been waiting to see their faces!
ReplyDeleteSka-WEEEEEEE!!! Well, the big news that everyone wants to read is how Wylla is reacting to not being the baby in the house any longer? :)
ReplyDeleteSquee and a half!
ReplyDeletesoo cute!!!
ReplyDeleteOH my gosh. I am melting all over the place. But give Wylla and Bean kisses from me - don't want them to feel left out over all this squee-ness!!!
ReplyDelete(but, squeeee!)
DEAR precious tiny little bundles of love and beauty!
ReplyDeleteThese are the first kittens you've had since I started following this blog after Wylla arrived. I can't even. They are so squee. Can't wait to see how Bean and Wylla are around them. It's been a while since Bean was around anyone so tiny.
ReplyDeleteDo you know anything about mom and how they ended up at HS? They are so precious!
ReplyDeleteI'll share more in future posts.
DeleteThey are just TOO yummy! Can't wait to see how Wylla likes being a big sister! AND, of course, Bean will be delighted to have babies in the house.
ReplyDelete*dies of squee* yes, where DID they come from?
ReplyDeleteOh my, just too sweet! I absolutely love Hazel's white chin and apricot colored toes. Effie has such pretty markings and in the 2nd pic, looks like she has tons of attitude.
ReplyDeleteBuddy and Tiger's Mom
wait, omg Hazel's chin (!) and front foot (!)
Deleteguuuhhh!
Congratulations Mom, I could not be more happy for you and I'm also happy for me because I missed the babies so much. What a wonderful surprise!
ReplyDeleteOHNO I WAS TOTALLY NOT PREPARED FOR THIS
ReplyDelete*falls over and dies of the squee*
Until they are weened, they are so fragile and endles work! Bless your heart for doing this.
ReplyDeleteGail
Oh my dear sweet lord! They are so adorable! And seeing them with your hand in the picture shows just how teeny-tiny little Effie & Hazel are! (Love the names!)
ReplyDeleteIf anyone needs me, I'll just be over here dying of cute. Good gracious.
ReplyDeleteI needed my Charlene Butterbean and Wylla Stout fix but ohhhhh baby are these two delightful..Makes my day to see your blog and how nice & generous and loving you are to the thrown away babydolls, if people could neuter and spay their kitties these itty bitty kitties would not exist...But kudos to you for taking them in and feeding them and holding and loving on them, you and your hubs are true heroes in my mind..have a wonderful time with these itty bitty kitties cause they are stealing my heart by the photos!ciaoX()
ReplyDeleteOoh, SQUEEEEEEE! I love seeing Wylla and Bean but it's great to see young kits again, and you have SUCH a way with names!!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting! These babies are so gorgeous. I can't wait to read more about their adventures and how Wylla copes with being a big foster sister. You must be having so much fun with them.
ReplyDeleteI've been away and am just catching up with posts. I simply love little Hazel's expressive face.
ReplyDeleteOne of the litters we fostered had two that looked like Effie. We called them Blondie and Angel Eyes, after nicknames in one of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. We still mourn the fact that we didn't keep those two.
