Two Weeks Later

It's hard to believe, but it's now been two weeks since these little ones moved in. This means their quarantine can end, and they will be able to meet Wylla and Bean.   I know Bean will accept them with open paws, but I'm not sure what to expect with Wylla, so when it happens, we will go slow and we'll be very sensitive.  We'll start bringing them upstairs for visits, but they'll continue to live in their basement quarters for  a week or so more.  Once they're a little bigger and in need of a more space, they'll move upstairs.

Hazel and Effie have changed so much it these two weeks. When they arrived, their expressions were blank, and they did not respond to the sight of us or any movement or sounds. They were just tiny, hungry, squirming, screaming things.

Now, they interact with us so much more. They seek attention and affection. Their eyes are brighter, they respond to sound, they are stronger and more stable,  they play harder, and scream louder.  Ears that were flat, now point upwards.  Ounces have been gained.  They moved from KMR to wet food. They've nearly mastered the litter box, and they are starting to bathe themselves.  They are starting to reveal their personalities, too.  They've accomplished so much these two week -- it really is impressive!

Here's little Hazel on her first day here.  The lights are on, but no one's home.

And here she is two weeks later -  a louder, larger, and livelier Hazel.

Way to go, little girl.  You two make us proud.

  1. Good luck with the introductions. I'm curious about how they're going to go with Wylla since she won't the baby anymore. I'm sure it will all work out, you and your family are awesome fosterers.

  2. Hooray for Hazel and Effie! I know I say this every time, but I wish I could take them both. I love seeing their personalities emerge. I'm sure Bean will teach Wylla how much fun having babies around to play with and baff can be.

  4. When their ears get bigger I always say they have "popped". To me it marks when they leave that infant stage into full kittenhood!

  6. I always say there are three stages of kitten ears: Mouse Ears, Tipped-Over Ears, and Proper Ears. Being invested with Proper Ears is a proud moment in any kitten's life!

  7. So much progress in so little time! I can't believe it's already been two weeks...

Good luck with the introduction to Wylla. Hopefully she'll follow Bean's example and treat the little ones well.

  8. It is always wonderful to see the kittens growing into loving social kitties. I know you have given these two beauties a wonderful start to their life, and their forever humans will have wonderful companions.

  9. Loud and proud of it is Hazel! So glad to know these 2 are growing. Can not wait to learn of Wylla's reaction to them. Beanie's we all know - kittens to groom and kitten chow to steal.

  12. I'm just nuts for Hazel! Such a dear little thing.
Can't wait to read/see the introduction news.

When we brought our new little one, Sophie, home it wasn't the older cat, Chai, who was the problem. He couldn't wait to be friends but she was having none of it. Fast forward a few days and she thought the sun rose with him! They completely adore one another now, it's better than I could have dreamed. :-) I'm sure Wylla will love them soon and they'll be so lucky to have Bean and Wylla to guide them through early kittenhood.

  15. Well, at least you all know you have 32 squillion supportive aunties and oncles urging you all on -- you're the only person in the world that invariably makes me smooch the face on my laptop screen.
