Goodbye to Our Beloved Bookstore Kitty Friend

DSC_0113

A dear kitty friend passed away last week.  His name was Miko, and he was a beloved shop cat who made his home at King's Books.  This charming tabby lived well into his teens. His body was getting thin and wobbly, his coat a little duller, but that little man just kept on going.  In all of his days, his spirit was bright.

He took his duties as shop cat quite seriously, and could usually be found right there on the front counter, lounging in his bed, sitting in a box, or draped across the credit card machine or computer keyboard, waiting to greet anyone who stepped into the store.  On occasion, he would slip out and visit the pub next door.  He made many friends there too - everyone loved Miko.

He was so adored by our community, that the news of his passing landed on the front page of our local paper.

Not every cat is suited to be a shop cat, it takes a very special personality, which Miko had. He was gentle and tolerant, he was sweet, and he gladly accepted pets from the hands of many friends and strangers, and even hugs from children.

He was a happy cat who lived a very full life.

We appreciate all the efforts that Sweet Pea and the staff at King's Books made to keep Miko on this planet.  Your excellent care and love for this dear boy gave us all many good days with him.   Tacoma is grateful for that.

Miko, you will be missed by many.  King's friends, we are so sorry for your loss.

King's Books will be hosting a memorial for Miko on Wednesday, October 29th at 7:00 PM.  We'll be there, and we hope you'll be able to join us.  For more information on the event, visit HERE.

  3. Laurie puts it so well: "Not every cat is suited to be a shop cat, it takes a very special personality, which Miko had." Condolences to his family, near and far.

  6. My condolences to all on Miko's passing. We had a shop cat, Little Sister, who aided in loading trucks of lighting equipment. She was our resident Pest Control Equipment. A cat who likes this kind of life adds SO much to a store, it's employees and customers. Glad to know he was loved.

  7. I love shop cats- they are so friendly. But it seems the most tolerant ones are at book stores. Miko was a very sweet kitty and all of us over here send a hug for those who loved Miko.

  11. We understand-- had we had a shop, our first cat, the great orange tiger Saturn, would have been a shop cat and a good one, also. They are indeed rare, touch many people deeply, and leave a real void when they depart. And they are Cat Ambassadors, who often change the minds of people who think they hate cats (but often only hate what they think cats are). May you all get to the point where the happy memories dominate the rest, as soon as possible. Meanwhile, thoughts & prayers-- "Arowyn"
