Stepping Out With Wylla Stout: A Day at the Beach

DSC_1659

I was in need of an ocean escape and so was Jennifer.  Wylla is always game for an adventure,  so I gathered her things, packed her daypack, loaded the car, and we all headed to Wesport, Wa.

Though the ground was wet and skies were gray when we started off in the morning, by the time we made it to the coast, it was sunny and bright. It turned into the perfect day for a fall beach outing with a cat.

Westport is a bustling place during the summer, but on a fall weekday, it's desolate.  While we walked the beach, we only saw a handful of folks and a couple of dogs.

The ocean was a little rough, so we kept a good distance from the waves and spent most of our time perching on rocks and logs.  Wylla loves sniffing ocean air.

Wylla rode on my shoulder most of the day and but when we got close to this metal structure, she cried and wanted to climb it.

I obliged, and she was one happy cat.

Jennifer held Wylla's leash while I stepped a little further back to take some pictures.  Our little monkey decided to try climbing higher.

"Don't worry! I've got her butt!" said Jennifer.   Thankfully she did, and we got her down before she got into trouble.

The rest of our time was spent watching pelicans and waves.

And walking the shore.

"I'm petting a cat and looking at the ocean!  It does not get any better than this!" exclaimed a very happy Jennifer.

I have to agree.  It was the best day.

  1. What a fab way to play hooky! Wonder if my felines would go along with the whole leash thing...wonder if I have enough bandaids for thinking of such a silly idea....

Wylla looks very happy on the ladder!

    2. I would but my female Maine Coon had been abused so she can't be picked up. The male would yowl the entire car ride. Our 1st Maine Coon loved his leash, these two, not so much. But thanks for the info!

  4. Wylla is just so great! I love reading about her adventures...

And I have to point out that the rust on that metal structure looks really good with her fur.

  6. Oh that's wonderful! But I have to ask, did Wylla seem to think that the beach was one giant litterbox? I always wonder about that and will never be able to take my girls to the beach to find out (not if I want to avoid injury, that is) .

    1. Who knows what goes on in her head, but she didn't treat it as if it were her litter box.

  11. Not sure who had more fun on this trip :) the humans or Wylla. She looks entranced by the beach! Seems like the perfect outing following all of Wylla's hard work helping to foster the Von Tussles!

  12. I'm working towards our own seaside adventure! My boy is now very confident around his garden on lead and we plan a short trip to the local botanical gardens when the equinox storms settle

  13. I've often wondered if cats would enjoy the smell of the ocean as much as dogs do. I guess this answers that question!

  14. Any trip with Wylla Stout seems to be fun.
I bet Charlene enjoyed a little solo time after the Von Tussle horde! Aside from having Dad around?

Wylla sure can stretch! She is such a lovely, confident kitty.

  18. I have to agree with Jennifer; a day at the ocean doesn't get much better than the one you two shared with Wylla. How fabulous it would have been to be there with y'all!

  22. "Wylla loves sniffing ocean air.” Hey, so do I!! And foggy, overcast days are my favorites.

It’s so fun seeing another Wylla adventure, and a bonus that you and Jennifer got a day at the beach.

  23. Wylla is looking like she wants to yell "I'm king of the world!" while standing on that ladder.
