Bean Gets a Clean Bill of Health
Charlene was do for a round of vaccines and her annual physical, so I took her into the vet last week. We decided to do a "geriatric" blood panel to see how things look. It's shocking to think she's entered that stage of life, but Bean turns nine in just a couple of weeks.
All is well with Charlene. She's lost a few ounces since her last visit, her teeth are excellent, and the blood work results all looked great!
We're so glad she's doing so well. Let's hope that all continues for many years to come!

Do you recommend getting that blood panel, even if a cat is seemingly in perfect health? My cat turns 10 this year.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's a bad idea. You can use it as a point of reference should things change.
DeleteIt's an excellent idea and worth the investment. It's a good idea to have a record of what normal levels are for an animal on record for future reference, and bloodwork can pick up on problems in the earlier stages, before there are more obvious signs.
DeleteAtta way, Bean! You go, gal! Keep on keepin' on. (From one older gal to another. :-))
ReplyDeleteYay, Bean! Glad to hear that you are in good health.
ReplyDeleteOne of our cats is about 14, and that seems impossible... It feels like just yesterday that he moved in with us.
good job Bean :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Bean.....! She is so gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're in the pink, Beanie!
ReplyDeleteHurray for a healthy Bean! :)
ReplyDeleteYay for you, Charlene!!! I am happy to hear that you are in the best of health! It certainly shows! You look mahvalous!! :-)

Hooray for the Bean. I know what you mean about cats getting older. One of mine turned 9 last year but she doesn't act it very much.
ReplyDeleteYay, Bean! May you have many happy and healthy years ahead. You don't look a day over five.
ReplyDeleteMy friend Bumblebee is turning 16 this year and welcomes you to the club!
Good to hear Bean is healthy. And yes, an annual Elder Cat Blood Screen will pick up issues long before a cat will tell you!
ReplyDeleteLooking FAB, Charlene!
She's smiling in that first pic! She's so proud! :D
ReplyDeleteYou are looking simply marvelous, Queen Bean, simply marvelous! Long may you reign!
ReplyDeleteSuch a regal Queen Miss Charlene Butterbean, wow you look so lovely and to know you are so healthy is wonderful..It must be because of your Mamma and Poppa and Miss Wylla Stout..Happy Birthday you sweet angel..ciaoX()
ReplyDeleteHere's to the next 9 years for Bean!
ReplyDeleteHip hip hooray -- how wonderful to hear that the Bean feels as great as she looks! These are particularly stunning portraits. And did Wylla go along to keep her sis calm?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm with the definitely-yes crowd on the blood-panel front. For non-seniors, too.
Bean flew solo on this mission!
DeleteImpressive!
DeleteNine doesn't seem geriatric to me. I guess because the first cat I ever knew and loved lived to be 21 so I want to assume that all my cats will do the same. Of course it would be ideal if they lived forever but....
ReplyDeleteRegal Charlene Butterbean! What a gorgeous lady you are! Happy almost-your-birthday day!
ReplyDeleteYay Bean, so glad to hear that you are as healthy as you are beautiful. My "older" cats are turning 10 this year...they are still my beautiful baby kittens, as I call them! BTW, your whiskers are especially striking today.
ReplyDeleteGood job, Bean.. Sending you some of my almost-19-year-old Peanut's juju so you live at least another 10 like her. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Charlene is doing so well, and I agree that getting baseline numbers for our dear pets as they go into their senior years is an excellent idea.

That's great news. She's looking awesome, too :)
ReplyDeleteThe clean bill of health sure can make you feel good as well.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Bean!
She is so beautiful and is such a good cat! I'm glad to hear she's in good health.
ReplyDeleteWondering what the secret is for excellent dental health. Do you brush? I just can't wrap my head around the process, is it really possible? If you're shy for things to blog about, I'd love to get your thoughts on this topic.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear of Bean's good health!
