A Lumpkin Update!

I think you'll all be happy to know that I got a little update on our Lumpkins. Marguerite at the Humane Society spoke with their caretaker, Twila, and gave me the scoop.

Stewart Lumpkin and one of his sisters, I'm not sure which one, were successfully treated for ring worm and were adopted recently.  Twila is as fussy as we are when it comes to finding homes for her kittens, and said they were adopted by some very good people. One adopter came all the way from Oregon to get their kitty!  The last Lumpkin girl was still testing positive for ring worm and had a patch on her toe that wouldn't clear up. Things are better now, and she has a potential adopter coming to meet her this weekend.

The Lumpkins were about six weeks old when they left us in November, which means they're almost six months old now. It's been a long road for them and I'm so happy to know they're all doing better and starting their new lives with their adopting families. I'm so grateful to Twila for seeing them through this!

So, when will we have kittens again? We're not ready, and it's still not safe for us to bring kittens into our home. I know you all are itching for more babies, but we're just not there yet.  Someday I'll tell the whole tale, but the ringworm saga was kind of a nightmare. Though I've missed having kittens around here,  because of what we went through, I haven't been eager to jump back in.

Thanks for your patience through this kitten-less period. I love this faithful community of ours,  and appreciate your devotion!  Thank you for coming by each day, seeing what we're up to over here, leaving comments, and sharing your stories. Thank you IBKC Community, you're the best.

xoxo Laurie

  1. I'm so glad the little Lumpkins are doing well. I am happy to hear that Wylla is doing better, too. She and Bean are just wonderful. I enjoy reading about their adventures, both inside and out and about.

  2. So glad the Lumpkins have been going to their forever homes.
Having just watched Shadow Cats rescue in Texas go through a bout of ringworm in one of their sections, I can appreciate some of what you went through!

I have been enjoying the focus on Wylla and Charlene and the occasional alumni update.

  4. So happy to hear that the Lumpkins are doing well! I've never had any personal experience with ringworm, and based on what you went through, I certainly hope I never do... Thanks for all you do for the cats and kittens! I know you will contribute in any way you can, and it is important to take care of yourselves and your two fuzzy children.

    1. Yes, ringworm is very scary and frustrating. I'm so glad that the Lumpkins were able to get such great, kind care. Sincere sympathies for any and all who've had to contend with this fungus.

As for a kitten-free house, spending a few minutes among Wylla and Charlene each day is a joy -- many thanks for providing us with their and your company.

  6. Yay, another happy ending.

I will never tire of seeing what Bean and Wylla are up to, so I'll keep coming back kittens or not.

  7. Glad to hear the Lumpkins are doing better. Yes, we miss kittens but a a clean and healthy house is very important. And having the time to get to know Wylla and more Beanie action is fine. Any chance you could get more updates on your previous fosters?

  8. I'm so glad to hear the Lumpkins are doing better and that most are already off to their forever homes! Any chance their last foster mom has recent pictures of them she could share? I know they have grown a lot since we last saw them!

  9. I cannot judge anyone who's had a ringworm experience because as an SPCA volunteer, I love working with sick cats but (ashamedly) avoid the ringworm quarantine :-(

Side question: Laurie, are the little cat question survey results posted anywhere after they close? Just curious because I only noticed it a few days ago... So much fun!

    1. Once the poll ends, the results stay up until I change the question, which usually happens around 10:00 AM pacific time. Also, Charlene will tweet about the results and post on FB too. I'm just doing these polls because they're fun for folks and spur conversations. I'm not really in it for the data, so I don't save it anywhere.

  10. Oh yay!!! Many thanks to Twila for caring for the darling Lumpkins all these months, and hooray for you for knowing your proper limits, Laurie.

Yes, kittens are fun, but the IBKC is a family, and I would no more think of deserting it because there weren’t any babies than I would my earthling family.

We got Maren when she was about 18 months old, Mick and Keith when they were 8 months old. I hope Stewart and his sisters find families that are as happy to have older kittens as we were to have ours.

  11. Not to worry. I know you've had some bad experiences in the past couple of years with fostering kittens, and I wouldn't fault you if you never wanted to again.

In the meantime, if you're itching for kittens, drop by Love and Hisses. Robyn's mama cat dropped SEVEN adorable little monsters yesterday.

  12. Luckily I only had one mild brush with ringworm back in 2001. My pediatrician found a small patch on my neck. I had no clue it was there as you couldn't see it unless you were looking for it.

  14. Oh my, I almost sent Laurie an email yesterday wondering if there was any news on the Lumpkins but deleted it since the last entry said if news came thought she would let "us" know!
    Ooooo spooky....

  17. I do miss the parade of kittens, but can understand after *two* bouts of 'clean the house, sterilize the house, sterilize the cats (no, not the boiling water, mom!) and the humans (no, honey, I'm not bathing bleach no matter how much you like kittens). If you never had kittens again I'd sniffle a bit, but continue checking in on Bean and Wylla.

  18. My two cats, Miss Lily and Boo live at our home in Georgia and I work in Florida seeing them only on the weekends. Charlene and Wylla have become my substitute midweek kitties and I really appreciate and look forward to your daily posts about them. thank you!

  19. How fabulous for Stewart and his sister! That's fabulous to hear! I'm so thrilled for them! My thanks and appreciation to Twyla for taking the Lumpkins and getting them through *shudder* ringworm and making sure Stewart and his sister went to excellent furever homes, and I know she'll do the same with the other Lumpkin sister. Dedicated fosters, like you and Twila, are worth more than their weight in gold.

I can understand why you wouldn't be ready for more kittens just yet. Ringworm is brutal.
