Oh silly Wylla! My cats LOVE cardboard! They mainly scratch it and lay in/on it. But I have one cat that will shred a piece of paper the same way Wylla is shredding the cardboard. I constantly come home to a living room with little bits of paper everywhere. :-)
We always have boxes (too many). If it was up to my husband we'd keep them all inside so our two cats to play in them. Me? I tell them they can enjoy them one day then they're out. One of our cats always has to chew on them. The other one could care less.
Oh my yes! One of my cats loves to chomp on the flaps of cardboard boxes (the other one just likes to sit in them). She'll also go after the corners of hardcover books if you're not careful.
All of my cats have proper names, (Juliet, Thomas, etc.) EXCEPT Bookworm He was tagged that as a kitten due to his propensity to chew books, magazines, catalogues. He has not totally grown out of it. He also like to chew through the telephone cord, usually when I was on the phone to my mother,...
I wonder if it satifies some urge for cats to sink their teeth into something -- commercial cat food doesn't really give cats anything to bite/tear/rip with their teeth. Our cats always loved to bite hard and rip at cardboard box edges.
Yes, but I have one who adores plastic bags even more. Any random plastic bag you leave lying around will get bites taken out of it. Sadly, she does eat it, and you can occasionally find wee bits of plastic bag in her poop. Weirder, she loves Crocs and other sandals made of the same material and will bite holes in them.
Predatory drive makes sense to us too. Also, they go beat up on their box (we always have one in easy reach and change it when all 4 corners are gone LOL) when we have told them *No* WRT something they wanted to do. So cute and funny! And lots of times, it's just the sheer joy of making racket with the cardboard, we think. Sounds kinda like Saturn rockets on July 4th! They loooooooove the UPS and Fed-Ex men and start purring whenever the trucks pull in here. And Petey, the crazy rescue Bengal boy, goes nuts for the bar codes on the boxes (remind him of those big grey and gold millipedes he loves?). He postures and screams a very wild-sounding scream at said bar codes when there are no bugs, which thankfully is most of the time. "FEAR ME, BAR CODE!!!" We looooooooooooove cats so much!--from Arowyn
I'm probably in the minority here but my cats don't seem to care about chewing cardboard. They'll sleep in boxes, but that's about it. I wonder if it's a territory thing.
Yes, kitties like cardboard boxes. When Sparta was a kitten, ( and smaller!) she loved the cardboard 12 pack containers for bottles. Yukon preferred paper sacks when he was a wee one.
My cat likes to sit in my knitting basket and chew on my patterns. And one time she really did eat my work! I had a presentation for work that she chewed up.
Cats: the world's cutest cardboard house wrecking ball.
ReplyDeleteNow that she's a bigger kitty she needs bigger windows. It's not demolition, it's renovation!

ReplyDeleteShe should have her own show on HGTV! 🐈🐱
ReplyDeleteDid she want a larger bay window on that side?
ReplyDeleteMaybe if it was a gingerbread house?

ReplyDeleteOur cat Smokey loves to chew paper & cardboard, but oddly enough she hasn't even nibbled her cardboard house yet!
ReplyDeleteMaybe she read that you were going to have to watch her diet to keep her under 8 lbs. :DDD
ReplyDeleteGoogle ad accompanying the video? Paper Shredders in my area. :) Sybann
ReplyDeleteMy ad was heavy duty balers! So funny what comes up sometimes, isn't it?
DeleteI can't even begin to tell you how many books I've not been able to sell to the used book store because the cover is full of kitty bite marks.
ReplyDeleteAdding her own gingerbread trim?

ReplyDeleteI have a cat that likes to rip and tear cardboard with extreme prejudice as well. Predatory drives explain a lot.
DeleteRenovating, Wylla?

Mine love NOISY PLAKSTIK too. It's how they get me out of bed to feed them if I'm sleeping too late. Crunch, crinkle, crunch! Delishus plakstik!

ReplyDeleteI hate to think of how many Christmas gifts I've given away that have teeth marks hidden under the wrapping paper.
ReplyDeleteAll three love playing *in* boxes, but Spenser especially loves gnawing *on* them.
ReplyDeleteHe and Keith are like little locusts when it comes to the mail, magazines, newspapers or any other paper goods.
too cute! we have more of a "if i fits i sits" attitude toward all things hardboard here, but we've had cats with the demo-inclination.
ReplyDeletei love the cardboard house, where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteI believe Laurie said Target before Xmas?
DeleteKitties love cardboard! I have to admit that I'd be upset if mine started chewing on an adorable cardboard house :(
