Last time we were in for a vet visit I asked Doc about Wylla's current size. She has a body condition score poster hanging in the office which shows cats ranked on a scale from one to nine. One is "too thin" and nine is "too heavy". Doc ranked Wylla on the upper end of five, almost a six, and five is "ideal". She thought that was the perfect place for Wylla to be, given her condition.
And now we need to try to maintain this ideal weight and not let her get TOO fat. She's always been able to eat as much as she wants (or as much as we feel she can process) each day, but now I need to take a close look at how much she is consuming, and start rationing her food out according to the recommendations by our vet and the food manufacturer. She's currently 7.75 pounds, and we'll try to keep her under 8.
She's still feeling really great, and her poops are solid once again. Her energy level has been off-the-charts, and she's acting extra kittenish these days. At times, she's almost too much for Charlene, so Charlene will stay in the shadows while Wylla works her crazies out.
It makes me so happy to know that after being too thin for the bulk of her lifetime, she's finally where she is supposed to be!
All it takes is love, lots and lots of love to get some kittens on the right track. Congrats on all your hard work getting Miss Wylla up to snuff on her weight. And good luck to Charlene avoiding the kitten crazies!
ReplyDeletePurrfectly perfect

Well of course she's perfect! We have ALWAYS known that! But it's nice to have a professional verify it! :-)
ReplyDeletePerfect- yes. Wonderfully perfect.
ReplyDeleteA great big "WHOO-HOO!" for Wylla. I'm with Sam, wishing Charlene luck in avoiding Wylla's (seemingly) neverending kitten energy. I do wonder, when you're determining body condition, how do you tell body shape through all that floof? Does the good doctor soak her down first? ;D
ReplyDeleteThe vet can tell by feeling under the floof. It is all about the shape of a cat from shoulder to hip. Making sure nothing is too skinny or too round. Your vet should have a chart to show you the ideal cat shape. But with floofy cats, it can be a challenge to determine their girth.
DeleteAtta way, Wylla! And may I say that your ruff is looking particularly gorgeous in this series of pics?
ReplyDeleteI can tell by her eyes, the look on her face, that Wylla feels better. :) She's a beautiful girl, and I'm so happy that you kept her. samm
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Wylla!
ReplyDeleteYay for Wylla! And someday, there will be kittens again, to burn off some of that excess energy!
ReplyDeleteYay for Wylla. All that lovin' can do a lot of good isn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt makes me happy, too, that she's not only healthier, but able to express her kittenhood now that she's feeling better!
ReplyDeleteHooray to the entire Committee for a marvelous job of raising Wylla, and thank you fir sharing her with us! My sympathies are with Charlele.
