Another "In Memory Of" Match

It seems that in the past year, this community of ours has experienced a lot of loss. We said goodbye to two of our Pettibones, Virgil and Henry, and Twyla Pickett, too.  In our comment section, I saw many of you mention the passing of some very special pets. I think it's been a hard year for many. We're sorry your hearts are aching.

Beth and Michael lost a very special cat, Winifred, just last month and wanted to honor their dear girl by offering up a matching donation challenge in her name.

Here are a few words from Beth about Winifred:

Winifred forced herself into our family by barging onto our apartment’s patio when she was six years old. We found out she was unhappy with her current owners and happily arranged to adopt her. Never weighing more than eight pounds, she was a sweet, mischievous, gentle, claw-filled, loving little devil who would meow loudly when we came home as if to say, “Where have you been?”

A lover of all-things meat, cheese and bread, Winifred always took her place at the dinner table in the chair beside Michael in order to paw his arm throughout any meal. She lived through two moves, transitioned to being an indoor cat, and tolerated the adoption of her “big” sister-dog Sadie.

After 20.5 years on this earth, we lost our dear Winifred on June 26. This little cat left a big hole in our lives. Winifred will remain in our hearts forever.

She sounds like a wonderful cat.

Until 6:00 PM Pacific Time tonight,  Beth and Michael will be matching your donations until we reach their $1000 cap.  So, for every dollar you give, they'll give one in memory of sweet Winifred.

Maybe there's a special pet you've said goodbye to that you would like to give in memory of? If you do, when you make your donation, please mention your loved one in a comment on the Firstgiving page.   Feel free to share a photo of your dear one on our Facebook Page wall, too.  We would love to see who you're paying tribute to.

To make a tax-deductible donation and help us meet this wonderful match, please visit our Firstgiving page.

Thank you for your generosity, Beth and Michael.  And thank you in advance to all who contribute to this special match.

  1. In 1 year I lost my brother and 2 of my cats who helped me with the loss. I'm donating for all 3. Alex loved my cats and my cats, Apolo and Logan loved him back. Hoping they are taking naps on the couch with eachother.

  4. So sorry to hear about your loss, Beth and Michael. We lost our Henry (Henry Danger, not Henry Pettibone) this past April. We had 13 years together, and I would have given an arm to have 13 more. No matter how much time we have with our pets, it's never enough...

Thank you for honoring Winifred in this way. Hopefully she has connected with our Henry and is now enjoying all of the meat, cheese, and bread her heart desires.

  11. My heart goes out to you, Beth and Michael - thank you for sharing the joyful story of wonderful Winifred. I too suspect she's sitting at the big table with lots of charcuterie all just for her!

I joined the IBKC Community immediately before you fostered Beulah Mae and her little family, so the Picketts were my first start-to-furever-home fosters. Like @CharleneGrah above, my heart also just broke a little. My sincere condolences to her family.
