She doesn't chew on cardboard all the time, but when she does, she's pretty manic about it. Don't worry, she spits the bits out. She just seems to enjoy the act of destruction -- she's not interested in eating it.

She had to enlarge- the house wasn't growing fast enough to keep up with her head. I once did that to a whole row of windows- but not with my teeth. Well done, genius kitty. That's one way to get it done.

DeletePerhaps scented markers were used to draw the window sashings? My son's set were all fruity as I recall. Do they make fish and meat markers?

Our late great Hyper Cat (Hyperion) did this, as did our first, the late great Saturn, and both would also use their claws to pull out perfectly shaped little five-sided pieces from a corner and toss them aside (with the softer boxes). Current cats Aegir & Iapetus, and kitten Erriapus, shred, ignore, and chew cardboard, respectively. Hyper would also "peel" the heavy duty boxes: sit next to them and use his claws to tease loose the top (paper) layer wherever there was a break in it, then catch the edge of that between his toes' and "heel" pads, and carefully pull long strips of it downward and off, drop them aside, and then sit looking at the box intently for a minute to figure out where to start and peel the next piece. Cats are such great entertainment, on top of everything else!

Maybe Wylla needs one of those boxes with a silhouette of a T-Rex on it around & just beneath the hole. There's a pic like that when you search for "cats & cardboard" boxes. Hilarious. ReplyDeleteWay back in the dawn of time, we had Callie Princess Precious Paws aka Killer of all things cardboard.I think they just like the way it feels on their teeth. Or it is Wylla's "Evil Twin, Skippy" (that's who all my sisters and I blamed when we got caught being naughty.)

ReplyDeleteI had a cat once (large and male) who loved cardboard the same way Wylla does...he didn't gnaw away at it, though. He just fanged it to bits with lots of holes (my daughter, in elementary school at the time) called them Cat Staples.
