Goodbye, But See You Soon!
Shawn and David, dear friends of ours, joined us at our home for Thanksgiving Dinner.
In my first conversation with David that day, we chatted about cats and Christmas. In the past few years, they had said goodbye to three sweet senior cats, the most recent, last summer, and this would be the first year in a very long that they would not have cats during the holiday season. They had been talking about getting cats once again soon but thought they would wait until after the new year when things settled down.
David was looking forward to decorating the tree and hanging all of his favorite fragile ornaments instead of the usual more practical plastic ones -- the kind that can't be destroyed by cats.
But these plans to wait started shifting once Poe and Marigold entered the room.
Shawn blurted out "Oh my god, are they available?" Followed with "It IS my birthday on Saturday."
We had someone, we thought, lined up for this pair, but it all fell through earlier that week, so Poe and Marigold were back on the market and looking for a home.
No decisions were made that day, we all just enjoyed our meal, the guests, and the kittens, and as they left that night, Shawn and David said they would talk about it and let us know their decision soon.
We were thrilled, to say the very least, when Shawn called to say they wanted to adopt Poe and Marigold!
You know how we love these kittens and we were hoping to find some very special people to adopt them. Well, we found them. And these people are our people, so we'll be able to easily stay in touch with them and even see these two every now and again.
In fact, we're going to their house this weekend for a holiday gathering! I'll give you the full report on Monday!
So, thank you, David and Shawn, for adopting this extra-special pair. We know how you love and adore your cats, so we know their life will be a good one.
Before they left, I had a frank discussion with Poe and Marigold about Christmas trees, ornaments, and holiday hazards. Poe gave me a look that seemed to say "I have no impulse control." So, good luck with that, guys!

ReplyDeleteThis makes me so happy that they went to a home that you know so well! I know the kittens always find the perfect home but this seems extra perfect since they are your people!
ReplyDeleteHooray! I was 99.9% sure there was no way you would split this pair up! Bonus to have them settled with a near and dear family!
ReplyDeleteYay! How delightful that we can get frequent updates. These two are adorable.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to all of us!! This is a win-win-win situation if ever there was one.
ReplyDeleteI and I am sure all of us are so very glad Poe and Marigold are staying together! Charlene & Wylla will miss these two monkeys. I know you and Craig will be sure to give them lots of additional attention, Laurie!
ReplyDeleteThat cross-eyed deep-kitten-thoughts look slays me :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a happy adoption tale for everyone involved! I'm so glad you get to stay close to Poe and Marigold and that you'll share their updates with us!
ReplyDeleteOh how I will miss their updates and mitten shots, but so happy that they will stay together in a forever home. Meowy Fishmas!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so happy. Congratulations to David, Shawn, Marigold, and Poe on their new family venture together!
ReplyDeleteSo many smiles for Poe, Marigold, Shawn & David.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad these two are going to stay together. They seem especially close.
ReplyDeleteChristmas ain't Christmas without a cat-astrophe or two. ;)
ReplyDeleteA happy story, indeed. I look forward to seeing their paws at full-grown!
aaawwww, what a wonderful beginning! Do David and Shawn have a fb page I can follow to see more of Poe and Marigold??
ReplyDeleteI bet Poe and Marigold will make this a memorable Christmas for Shawn and David. How cool that they are going together and will be with friends!
ReplyDeleteaaawwww, what a happy beginning! Do David and Shawn have a fb page to follow to see more of Poe and marigold??
ReplyDeleteCongrats to this new family unit! David might try my trick - hang the fragile ornaments off the window valance. Maybe, just maybe, Poe & Marigold will leave them alone. Then again....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great early Christmas present that these two will go together. They have been a huge hit at our house, not to mention what I've learned about strabismus in cats! This is a great adoption story and I know everyone is very happy that we will get to watch these beautiful little kittens grow. Merry Christmas to Shawn and David!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we've already met these wonderful folks (or their knees, at least)? Congratulations to all, and Merry Christmas!

"I have thumbs! You can't expect me to not use them!"
ReplyDeleteExtra toes = extra trouble when it comes to ornaments and trees
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet Christmas adoption story. Hope Bean and Wylla don't get bummed too much now that the littles are gone.
ReplyDeleteI"m glad they are going to a home together! They are an adorable pair.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best news!!! There was something super special about these two and it's comforting to hear that they are staying together and being adopted by dear friends of yours. It's a wonderful holiday adoption story and I'm happy for everyone!!
ReplyDeleteAww, who wouldn't find those two irresistible? Great to hear that they're going to stay together, and that they'll remain part of your circle of friends.
ReplyDeleteOh, and did Poe have his eyes crossed during the frank discussion of Christmas trees and ornaments? Or maybe a couple of his toes? hmmm...
ReplyDeleteOh, how perfect! So glad this pair will get to stay together and have such devoted humans. I think both sides totally lucked out this holiday season.
ReplyDeleteI'll miss these two around the blog, but I'm glad they found a forever home!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Wylla can go out and about and visit them sometime. I bet she would like to see them again. Just a thought. :)
ReplyDeleteOh so THAT is what Poe's expression means. ("I have no impulse control.") Hehe.
ReplyDeleteHappy tails... sweet kitters!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great adoption story! Looks like it's plastic ornaments for at least another fifteen years for David and Shawn. ;D 'Kittens' and 'impulse control' are mutually exclusive, so that breakable ornament's going to have to stay in storage a while longer, I'm sorry to say.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so happy!
ReplyDeleteHooray! I love how quickly the topic of conversation changed. Kittens have that affect on cat people! Here's to keeping them together and a long and happy life for all of them!
ReplyDeletePlease post updated pictures of those faboulous mittens as the cats grow .....
